Racing Discussion / Caravan Of Care...looking for help from the racers
« on: November 09, 2012, 09:18:51 AM »
For those of you in the Finger Lakes region, I'm heading out again to do the annual Caravan Of Care to benefit local food pantries.  We'll be at TOPS locations around the region for 7 days starting 11/10 in Canandaigua, asking you to purchase 'Little Brown Bags Of Hope' to donate.

I'd love to see some support for this from the racing community, and I'll offer free shout outs for you, your race team/track, and your sponsors for coming out and donating!

The link below has all the details!

Don't know if anyone's been following this...SPEED passed on continuing its F1 coverage, which will shift to NBC and their cable sports network in 2013.  What's ALSO being reported is that this is the start of a 'reformatting' of SPEED, which will see it morph into a more rounded cable sports network (rumored to be called Fox Sports One).

While there's no word on how much motorsports programming will be part of that platform, one can assume that with Fox's renewal of its deal with NASCAR that there will be plenty of NASCAR-related programming in the mix.

However, this puts several series in a quandry...if Fox elects to dump the majority of its motorsports event coverage, we'll lose SPEED Center, the only racing newsmagazine show currently airing, and groups like the Aussie V8 Supercars, Grand Am, Lucas Oil Off Road, and WRG (WoO Sprint/LM/DIRTcar) might be left out in the cold.

Of these, Grand Am might be likely to retain, as they are owned and operated by Daytona Motorsports Group, which is owned and operated by ISC, the parent company of NASCAR.  This could theoretically also save AMA Pro Road Racing's TV time, as they are a DMG property as well.

Lucas Oil already clears programming for their second-tier divisions of the off road series extensively on CBS Sports Network (cable outlet) and have repackaged several headline division programs to air on CBS (national network).

Robby Gordon's new Stadium Super Trucks series (borrowing the old Mickey Thompson Stadium formula) has inked a deal with NBC and NBC Sports Net.

IMO this should be carefully looked at and observed.  Is this Fox feeling the heat of other major networks developing cable sports networks, or are they simply washing their hands of SPEED as a 'failed' prospect?  Where does that leave the state of televised motorsports?

Just a heads up for anyone planning on coming to Frozen Ocean for the 'Show Me The Money' race this weekend...we've postponed due to the less than favorable weather...we couldn't justify making teams spend big bucks on entries/travel/fuel etc. with chances of rain ranging from 50-70 percent for the next couple of days.

I'll post a reschedule date when we have it confirmed.
