“Big Money” Strikes for Second $10,000 Payday at the Bullring

By:  Steven Petty

PERRY, NY (October 21, 2017) For the second consecutive year, “Big Money” Matt Hirschman from Northampton, Pennsylvania is now $10,000 richer after earning his first career win at the Perry Bullring in the third running of the American Racer 100 for the Tour-Type Modifieds at Wyoming County International Speedway on Saturday afternoon. Zach Myers from East Concord, NY led every lap to score the win in the Super Stocks. Bob Rip Ripley from Pine City, NY was victorious in the CAMS Modified exhibition event.

“We rode around for the first half of the race but when the second half of the race rolled around and after the first caution, we decided to come in and get the new tire and the car was fast all day” stated Hirschman in victory lane. “I always love coming here to Perry, the track is racy and we’ve always had good success here” Hirschman added.

Chuck Hossfeld and Austin Kochenash were on the front row for the third running of the American Racer 100 for the Tour-Type Mods with Hossfeld showing the way from the start. Eric Beers took second away from Kochenash on lap three and began to chase down Hossfeld. Throughout the races early stages, the field was single file for the top dozen or so positions. Matt Hirschman would start working his way up through the field from his sixth starting spot as we worked around John Fortin to move into the fourth position on lap 15.

Hossfeld would hit lap traffic by lap 20 as he started to pull away from Eric Beers and Kochenash. While the field was strung around the 1/3rd mile-Bullring, Kochenash would catch Beers and would battle for the second position. TJ Zacharias would slow in turn two to bring out the races first caution on lap 57. As most of the leaders went into the pits, Jimmy Zacharias, Brian DeFebo, and Tony Hanbury stayed on the track to take over the top three spots. On the restart, DeFebo would take the lead away from Zacharias with Hossfeld moving into third. Chris Ridsdale spun in turn three to bring out the races second caution on lap 58. Brian DeFebo’s strong run came to an end on lap 60 after slowing entering turn three, as Daniel Majchrzak and Bill Mislin got together trying to avoid the slowing DeFebo.

The restart with around 40-laps remaining would see Jimmy Zacharias and Chuck Hossfeld on the front row, but it was Eric Beers and Matt Hirschman moving into second and third, behind Zacharias. Austin Kochenash and Mike Leaty got together on the front straightaway to bring out the red flag on lap 63. Both Kochenash and Leaty climbed out of their racecars under their own power. Eric Beers would take the lead on the restart as Matt Hirschman moved into second, shifting Zacharias back to third. Hirschman would look underneath Beers for the lead on lap 66 and would take the lead on lap 67. Andy Jankowiak would move into the top five on lap 70 after passing Barber. Tony Hanbury came to a stop in turn four to bring out the caution on lap 89.

Hirschman would lead the final 11 circuits to grab his second American Racer 100. Eric Beers, also from Northampton, PA finished in second and Jimmy Zacharias, the 2017 New York State NASCAR Champion from Candor, NY finished in third. “We had a good car but Matt was that much better”, commented runner-up finisher Beers.

“If we went into the pits and changed the tire, would we have won? No one can answer that, but it is a win for us finishing in third, with Matt (Hirschman) and Eric (Beers) here, they are always tough wherever they go” stated Zacharias.

Zach Myers and Teej Cochrane brought the WCIS Super Stocks to the green flag for their 50-lap event with Myers in the lead. While fighting for second place, multi-time track champion Dave Krawczyk and Cochrane got together and brought out the caution and with the two spun, the track got blocked as Andy Cryan, Eric Stone, Justin Myers, Mike Chenaille, and Frank Kline. On the restart, Myers would feel the pressure from Daniel Majchrzak. The lead duo would battle for several laps until Majchrzak had issues and lost the right front tire with 12 laps remaining. Myers would lead off the late-race restart and was able to hold off a hard-charging Majchrzak to score the win. Andy Cryan, who was involved in the early race wreck, came back through the field to complete the top three.

Rip Ripley crossed the line first in the CAMS Modified exhibition event over Dan Robertson, a former WCIS competitor in the 80’s and 90’s and Tommy Smith. Terry Wilson led the early stages but it was Ripley, who worked through the eight-car field to get the win.

Rochester, NY’s Jody London picked up the win in the 4 cylinder feature event. Brian Hallett picked up the win in the 6 Cylinders.

Zane Zeiner and Patrick Emerling were on the front row for the Jim Pierce Memorial 100 for the SST Modifieds Emerling, using the outside lane to take the lead with Zeiner, Rusty Smith, Jimmy Zacharias and Tony Hanbury, who raced early inside the top five. Zacharias would take third back from Smith on lap three, as the top ten would go into single-file formation. Zacharias would take second away from Zeiner on lap seven, and would go after race leader Emerling. Hanbury would take third away from Zeiner on lap nine, as Emerling opened up his lead over Zacharias. Richard Thomas spun in turn four to bring out the races first caution on lap 11. Zacharias would take the lead off the restart with Zeiner regaining second from Emerling. The red flag would come out on lap 21 for a 12-car incident that included Kirk Totten, Scott Wylie, Daniel Majchrzak, Toad and Bro Bradshaw, among others.

Zeiner would take the lead on the restart as Emerling raced in second with Zacharias and Hanbury moved into third. Emerling and Zeiner would pull away from the field as Emerling started to look underneath Zeiner and would complete the pass exiting turn four on lap 37. Zeiner would return the favor as he looked underneath Emerling for the lead  Kirk Totten slowed and came to a stop on the inside of turn two to bring out the caution on lap 40. On the restart, Emerling would continue to show the way over Zeiner and Hanbury. Zacharias would regain third just after the halfway mark, as Hanbury was holding off the advances of Andy Jankowiak. Jankowiak would pass Hanbury for fourth place on lap 73. Joe Evans spun in turn four to bring out the caution on lap 79.

Under caution, Zeiner received a mechanical black flag for an oil leak underneath the Hartwig Racing #73 entry. On the restart, Emerling and Zacharias would battle for the lead as Jankowiak entered the top three. Zacharias would challenge Emerling over the last 20 or so laps, but Emerling was able to hold him off. Emerling would score the win over Zacharias, Jankowiak, Hanbury and Rusty Smith.

Bill Frisbee and Nate Peckham brought the field of NYSS to the green flag for the Sandra Vogler Memorial 51 with Frisbee showing the way from the drop of the green flag. Third place starter Josh Schoonmaker spun in turn four to bring out the races first caution. Frisbee would take the lead off the restart as Peckham, Robert Fink, Steve Pesarek and Chris Vogler raced in the top five. Mike Hyman worked his way through the field in quick fashion after starting 17th on the grid, he ran in sixth place by lap seven. Robert Fink would catch the leader Frisbee on lap 12, just as Tommy Reece would take third place away from Nick Robinson. Chris Finnocchario would battle with Robinson for the second position on lap 16 and would go after race leader Frisbee. Finnocchario would take the lead from Frisbee on lap 24. Chris Vogler and Zach Willis would move up into the top five at the halfway point as Finnocchario and Robinson pulled away from the rest of the field. Scott Adams started 22nd on the grid and moved into fourth position on lap 37. Finnocchario and Robinson pulled away from Chris Vogler in the remaining laps, but with lap traffic, Vogler was able to reel in the lead duo. The lead duo would make contact with two laps remaining, sending both Finnocchario and Robinson to the rear of the field. This would put Scott Adams and Chris Vogler on the front row with Adams taking the lead and would lead the final two laps to get the win.

Dalton Alexander and Nick Robinson shared the front row for the main event for the 4 Cylinders with Robinson in the lead early on as Dave Brunka moved into second place. Tom Lalomia Jr spun in turn four to bring out the races first caution on lap five. On the restart, Robinson, Brunka, Jody London and Tyler Catalano took command of the field. London would catch Robinson on lap 14 as Jimmy Pierce Jr took over third place from Brunka. London would take the lead on lap 19 , as Pierce would take second place away from Robinson with four laps to go. London would pick up the win. PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO…
(May 7, 2017) For the second time in the last two weeks, Humberstone Speedway management was forced to postpone the 2nd Annual Dawn of Destruction presented by ATTAR Metals due to wet weather.

“With saturated grounds and the seasonably cold temperatures, we did not want to have fans and competitors come in the cold and have issues getting into and exiting our facility” states General Manager Bob Davidson. “We had the scheduled a fun and exciting event for the Dawn of Destruction” offered Race Director Tom Beales. “Only if Mother Nature would cooperate, we would have loved to have this event to kick off the 2017 season” Beales added. “With Mother’s Day being next week (May 14), we decided not to run the event on that day and focus on our Stock car season opener on May 21st” Davidson said.

Anyone who pre-registered and doesn’t want to participate in the $1,000 to win Showdown will have until May 21st to request a refund. Wet Weather Postpones Ransomville Speedway’s 60th Season Opener

RANSOMVILLE, NY…
(May 5 2017) The historic Ransomville Speedway has  postponed Opening Night presented by VP Race Fuels  as well as the Go-Kart program’s driving school and practice session scheduled for Saturday May 6th due to persistant rain showers throughout the week and throughout the day on Friday.

“We want to race as much as anyone but due to heavy rains that has not been possible” says Ransomville Speedway General Manager Jenn Martin. “We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we wait for Mother Nature. Fingers crossed we can get practice in on Wednesday May 10th at 7:15pm and the VP Race Fuels Opener on Friday May 12th” Martin says. The wet weather has left the facility very sauturated, especially in the pit area and the parking lot and management felt that the additional percipitation will make it difficult for racers and fans to enter and exit the property without any hassle.

The Ransomville Speedway Go-Kart driving school and practice session will now take place on Thursday May 11th with the season opener on the “Little R” scheduled for Thursday May 18th. “Thursday May 11th will have a driving school for new racers as well as those that need a refresher for those competing in the Junior 1 and 2 divisions” Martin said. “We felt it was important to still hold the training class for new, young racers as well as those needing a resfresher. We also want to give everyone a chance to have a practice and be sure all their off-season work has been successful” Martin says.

The Ransomville Speedway would like to remind everyone about the pit policy for children. The pits are open to anyone ages 12 and older. For kids ages 12-17, we need a copy of the child’s birth certificate to be put on file for the season plus the child’s parent to sign the consent form. “We ask for the parents to not assume that we have a copy of the birth certificate so that is why we are asking for a copy of the birth certificate so it can be on record and we thank everyone for their support in this matter” comments General Manager Jenn Martin.

Friday May 12th will be the 60th Season Opener presented by VP Racing Small Engine Fuels featuring a full card of racing of Krown Undercoating of Ransomville 358 Modifieds, Investors Service Sportsman, KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks, Gippsters Collision 4 Bangers and the Stevenson’s Hardware Novice Sportsman. Gates will swing open in the pits at 5:00pm with grandstands opening at 6:00pm with the first green flag of the season being waved at 7:15pm.
