2012 BRP CanAm Series Complete
   …6 Months / 53 Events / 65 Drivers / 14 Winners / 1 Champion…

St Catharines, ONT…After six months and 53 events, the 2012 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series is complete.

From the beginning of the 10th anniversary Series with a green flag on April 12 through a checkered flag on September 29 a total of 53 BRP CanAm events were completed at the four member tracks.  Ted White at Woodhull Raceway hosted the opener, the closer and a total of 21 events.  Jim Mazur at Raceway 5 hosted 17 events.  Dean Hoag at Black Rock Speedway hosted 10 events.  John Charlesworth at Little Valley Speedway scheduled six events, but completed only five after a July rainout.

At season’s end a total of 65 drivers had earned points.  Most of them with entries in Series Tour events, BRP Dart Challenge events, and Series Weekly events. 15 drivers had 100% attendance on the Tour while 18 drivers stayed close to home and were credited with home track points only.

14 different drivers scored A-Main victories during the 10th anniversary Series. John Waters lead everyone in the win category with a record breaking 19 trips to victory lane.  Dave DuBois was a nine time winner. Jeremy Wonderling, defending Series champion, carried the checkered flag five times.  Bruce Miller and Glenn Whritenour each recorded three A-Main wins.  Jason Knowles, Jon Rivers, Billy VanPelt, Dusty Waters, and Mike Wonderling all recorded two wins.  Making single trips to victory lane were Adam Depuy, Rick Hale, Jim Johnson, and Brian Knowles.

Bruce Miller earned the 2012 BRP CanAm Series championship on the strength of Tour event finishes and a strong (94 point) home track bonus point adder from Woodhull Raceway.  Miller won Tour events at Black Rock and Little Valley.  Miller closed out the season with a win in the final Series Weekly event at Woodhull last month. The 38 year old second generation race car driver from Wellsville, NY now owns 10 BRP CanAm Tour event victories including the first ever Tour event which was held at Little Valley Speedway in 2003.

Next for the BRP CanAm Series is the 2012 Awards / 2013 Plans meeting at the National Parts Peddler Trade Show in Syracuse, NY on Saturday November 17.

John Waters Captures Little Valley ISKY Championship
   …Bruce Miller 2012 BRP CanAm Series Champion…

Little Valley, NY …John Waters closed the books on the 2012 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series Tour Saturday night with his victory in the ISKY Cams Championship at Little Valley Speedway (LVS).

Waters won the battle while Bruce Miller won the season long war to earn the 2012 BRP CanAm Tour championship.  Miller’s championship point margin is a slim 29 points over Waters (656 Vs 627).

The ISKY Cams Championship story has two chapters – the race and the championship point contests.

The race story:  John Waters cleaned house! The Whitesville, NY speedster won his heat, drew the number two chip for the A-Main redraw and lead every lap to record his third LVS win of the year and increase his record breaking season win total to 19.

Mikey Wonderling and John Waters paced the 24 starters to John Powell’s green to start the contest.  Waters won the drag race and went to work. At the conclusion of lap one it was Waters, Bruce Miller, and Mikey Wonderling.  Miller had shot from his number four starting spot and the fans knew that they were in for a treat!  The track had great bite on the top, bottom, and in the middle.  Waters favored the top where Miller typically runs.  Lane choice may have made the difference.

Jeremy Wonderling was up to third at the halfway mark and caught the leaders after a caution on lap eleven, but was not able to improve.  Glenn Whritenour and Dusty Waters completed the top five.

The points contests story:  The BRP CanAm Series Tour point championship and the LVS point championship were to be settled tonight.  The Tour title was between Miller and Waters.  Miller lead going in and only needed to be close behind Waters wherever they finished to lock up his first ever BRP CanAm Series Championship.  The LVS title chase was very much up in the air.  Ten drivers had a mathematical chance Waters took care of what he could control by winning the race.  The Jason Knowles entered the race as the LVS point leader, but a disappointing 13th place finish cost him the track title by one point.  That combination resulted in Waters claiming the LVS championship.

BRP CanAm Series drivers will continue to accumulate home track bonus points in the three remaining programs at Woodhull Raceway.  There are several closely contested positions behind Miller and Waters that are up for grabs.  They will all be back at it on Saturday September 22 in a 50 lap at Ted White’s race place.

Notes:  Bruce Miller won the Gater racing Photo News Leader of the Pack Award…F/A Products Engine Builder heat race winners were Bruce Miller, Jim Johnson, Brian Knowles, and John Waters…ISKY Cams Red Zone B-Main winner was Steve Watson…Dart Hard Charger was Jason Knowles (start 23 – finish 13)…Two time Series champion Jeff Chesebro made his first start of 2012…Cheez was in the Troups Creek Auto Parts #19…Brian Hoffman and Brian Kotarski made their first 2012 Tour starts, but neither qualified for the A…Greg Hallet and Doug Jones made their first ever BRP CanAm starts, but neither qualified for the A…Waters, the BRP Dart Challenge champion, now owns track titles at Black Rock, Little Valley, and Woodhull.

Jason Knowles Looking For Little Valley Championship
   …2012 Season Finale On Saturday…

Little Valley, NY…Jason Knowles won the most recent 360 late model race at Little Valley Speedway (LVS) and he hopes to repeat on Saturday September 15 when the Speedway hosts its final event of the 2012 racing season.

Knowles’ August 29 win on World of Outlaws night propelled him into the point lead for the first time in his career at LVS.  The race win was his first at this track and now he wants to add the championship to his list of firsts.

The short LVS special only format was abbreviated from six events to five events when the July 3 show was rained out.  The four 360 late model events completed to date have produced four different winners.  Dusty Waters won the season opener in May, Dusty’s brother John won in June, Bruce Miller won the Brock Young Memorial in July, and last month Jason Knowles was victorious.

Saturday night’s race for the 360 late models is the ISKY Cams Championship which pays the winner $1500.  The money is good, but also important are the points for both the LVS championship chase and the Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series championship. The Series championship will be settled between Bruce Miller and John Waters.  The track championship could go to any of the top ten drivers.

The LVS point schedule of 30 points for a win, 28 for second and one point decrements to last make it possible for any of the top ten drivers to earn the 2012 360 late model championship.

Little Valley Speedway 360 Late Model points (top 10):  1. Jason Knowles – 104, 2. Mikey Wonderling – 96, 3. Jim Johnson – 94, 4t. John Waters – 92, 4t. Mike Wonderling – 92, 6. Jeremy Wonderling 91, 7t. Dave DuBois – 79, 7t. Steve Watson – 79, 9. Bob Close – 77, 10. Bruce Miller - 76

Little Valley Speedway gates will open at 3:00 on Saturday for a 6:30 start.  Track championships are on the line for the super late models, 360 late models, and street stocks.  In addition the 358 Dirtcar modifieds make their once a year annual appearance. ISKY Cams Presents BRP CanAm Championship
…10th Anniversary Season Concludes On Saturday At Little Valley Speedway…

Little Valley, NY…Iskendarian Racing Cams will present the season ending championship race for the Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series on Saturday September 15 at Little Valley Speedway on the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds in Little Valley, NY.

“ISKY Cams is proud to be a long time marketing partner for the BRP CanAm Series.  For the 10th Anniversary season we have moved the championship race venue to Little Valley Speedway.  Our first event was at Cayuga County Fair Speedway then it was moved to Black Rock Speedway. More important than location is the fact that we are delighted that many of the engine builders use our Iskendarian products in the open engine program of the BRP CanAm Series.  Open engines is the key to our involvement.  All of us here at Iskendarian Racing Cams wish all of the competitors good luck in the championship race,” relayed Richard Iskendarian from his office in Gardena, California. ISKY Cams information at ISKYCams.com

The battle for the 2012 Championship has come down to Bruce Miller of Wellsville, NY and John Waters of Whitesville.

Miller leads the Tour point standings by 43 points over Waters entering championship night.  However, home track bonus points (HTBP) will be added to determine the champion.

Waters has already earned the maximum of 100 HTBP while Miller currently has 91 HTBP.  Accordingly, the adjusted gap is 34 points.  The HTBP program will continue until Woodhull Raceway completes its 2012 season on September 29.

The bottom line is that Miller must leave Little Valley with something more than a nine point advantage to lock up the championship.  Anything less and he will need to improve on his HTBP advantage in the remaining events at Woodhull Raceway.

Miller and Waters each have two Series tour event wins in their point tally.  The Memorial Day weekend event at Little Valley is where most of the point spread occurred.  Waters did not finish that race and was credited with 22nd finish while Miller finished fifth resulting in a 38 point advantage for Miller.

The current point spread ensures that both drivers must race hard for the 2012 title. Waters will be going all out for a win on Saturday night while Miller needs to make sure he either leads Waters to the finish or is very close behind.

BRP CanAm Series tour event points (top 10 of 59):  1. Bruce Miller – 470, 2. John Waters – 427, 3. Mikey Wonderling – 402, 4. Jeremy Wonderling – 381, 5. Dusty Waters – 359, 6. Mike Wonderling, 7. Jason Knowles – 322, 8.Brian Knowles – 311, 9. Quinn Sutherland – 300, 10. Dave DuBois - 272

Little Valley Speedway gates will open at 3:00 on Saturday for a 6:30 start.  In addition to the ISKY Cams BRP CanAm Series championship the 360 late models will be racing for the track championship.  That point battle has Jason Knowles leading Mikey Wonderling by eight points.  Neither has ever won a Little Valley Speedway track title. Joining the BRP CanAm late models on Saturday will be the super late models, 358 modifieds, and street stocks.  More information at www.LittleValleySpeedway.com

John Waters Is the BRP CanAm Challenge Champion
…Defends Title With Four Wins In Five Races…

St Catharines, ONT …John Waters earned the 2012 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) Dart Challenge Championship with a near perfect record.  Four wins in the five race Challenge made it difficult for anyone to stop the Whitesville, NY driver from repeating as the Challenge champion.

Waters’s win in the opening Challenge race at Black Rock Speedway (BRS) on May 18 sent the message that he would be a strong contender for the 2012 title.  A second win at Little Valley Speedway (LVS) on June 8 followed by yet another win at BRS on June 29 and the stage was pretty well set.  A rain out at LVS on July 3 may have helped Waters seal the deal since that event could not be rescheduled.  After Waters went four for four at BRS on August 3 he held an insurmountable 60 point advantage over Jason Knowles going into the championship race at LVS on August 29.  Waters finished fourth in the Challenge finale and tallied a total of 485 points.

Jason Knowles was second in the opener and hung tough throughout the Challenge.  Tough indeed, Knowles won the final at LVS on Challenge Championship night.  However, the only way he could have won the championship was if Waters did not enter.  The consolation was that Knowles did secure second in the standings and won his first ever A-Main at LVS.  Also Knowles took the Little Valley track point lead.  His next championship challenge is to secure the LVS title on September 15.

Jeremy Wonderling was winless in the Challenge, but always close.  A pair of second place finishes helped his cause and had him a close third in the final standings a mere nine points behind Knowles.

Jared Hill’s sophomore season in 360 late models proved that the kid will be a contender for many wins in the future.  It is a steep hill to climb with veterans like Waters, Knowles, and Wonderling leading the charge.  Hill earned 386 points to finish fourth in the Challenge standings.

The true veteran of the top five is Mike Wonderling.  Mike, a 60 year old grandfather, has been wheeling race cars around area race tracks for many years.  Today he races against his boys (Mikey, Brady, and Jeremy) and often finishes in front of them.  In the Challenge standing he ended up fifth with 367 points.

Bruce Miller, Mikey Wonderling, Dusty Waters, Brian Knowles, and Steve LeBarron completed the top ten and will share the $3000 cash point fund.  Those top ten plus others that entered all five Challenge events are eligible for the drawings for a Dart engine block ($2500 value) and a set of Dart cylinder heads ($1500 value). Included in the perfect attendance category are Buck Payne, Bob Stilson, Quinn Sutherland, and Wally Wade.

Final Point Standings: 1. John Waters – 485, 2. Jason Knowles – 440, 3. Jeremy Wonderling – 431, 4. Jared Hill – 386, 5. Mike Wonderling – 367, 6. Bruce Miller – 354, 7. Mikey Wonderling – 330, 8. Dusty Waters – 316, 9. Brian Knowles – 311, 10. Steve LeBarron – 292, 11. Buck Payne – 272, 12. Quinn Sutherland – 262, 13. Wally Wade – 255, 14. Bob Stilson – 248, 15. Dave DuBois -198, 16. Jim Johnson – 166, 17. Carl Cleveland – 157, 18. Sparky Hills – 141, 19. Steve Watson – 128, 20. Bob Close – 124, 21. Larry Knowles – 105, 22. JJ Mazur – 104, 23. Bill Miller – 101, 24. DJ Krug – 100, 25. Ron Wilkins – 97, 26. Neil Patterson – 89, 27. Bob Babbitt – 76, 28. Adam Depuy – 72, 29. Billy VanPelt – 65, 30. Cecil LaBarron, 31. Chris Peacock – 56, 32t. Tom Baker – 50, 32t. Steve Kent – 50, 34. Jimmy Johnson – 46, 35. Brian Hoffman, 36. Jon Rivers- 42, 37. Alan Wais – 40

The BRP Dart Challenge is a cooperative effort between John Charlesworth of Little Valley Speedway and Dean Hoag of Black Rock Speedway. Jason Knowles BRP Dart Challenge Winner @ Little Valley
…John Waters Claims the Challenge Championship…

Little Valley, NY …Jason Knowles was perfect on a perfect night at Little Valley Speedway (LVS) on Wednesday night.  The 30 year old second generation driver from Painted Post won his heat, drew the number one starting spot in the redraw, and then led every lap to claim his first ever A-Main win at the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds track .  That is about as perfect as it gets.

To top it off the perfect performance it was in front of the largest crowd to ever witness a race at LVS on the night that the World of Outlaws Late Model Series came to town.  The win - his first ever A-Main win at LVS – moved Knowles from second to first in LVS track points.  Jason (The Jet) will enter the final 2012 LVS event on September 15 eight point advantage over Mikey Wonderling as those two battle for the track’s 360 late model championship.

“My car was fast from the first lap of my heat to the last lap of the feature.  It was fast and it was hot.  Not a good hot, but too hot since we were fighting a water pump issue all night.  We found the problem after the heat and then scrambled to fit it.  We never got is totally right, but it lasted just long enough. Actually, I was really sweating the last few laps. The gauge was pegged and Jeremy (Wonderling) was coming!  That is a lot to worry about,” shared Knowles from the tech barn where his car was being validated for compliance to tech specs.

The only thing that did not work out for Knowles was that he could not gain enough points to win the BRP Dart Challenge points championship.  That honor went to John Waters who held an insurmountable 60 point advantage entering the event.  Knowles ended up second in the Challenge points tally.

Jeremy Wonderling followed Knowles to Johnny Powell’s flying double checker flags by less than two car lengths.  Mr. Excitement is always fast and exciting on the big flat LVS oval.  Tonight was no different. Wonderling started 10 in the 26 car field and proved that the track was both fast.  “I thought that I might be able to get him (Knowles) on the late race (lap 17) restart, but it just didn’t work.  I needed a few more laps,” shared the big red headed Scio driver.

Jim Johnson’s Hot Rod Lincoln was wearing new sheet metal and an all new orange and white paint scheme administered by Heath Cousins.  Johnson was wearing a big smile when he dismounted after the finish.  It is easy to smile when you can race from ninth at the start and finish in the show position.  Third is Johnson’s best finish off home turf (Raceway 5) this year.

John Waters, the new and defending BRP Dart Challenge champion, had nothing for Knowles, Wonderling, or Johnson tonight.  Waters started fifth and came home fourth after a race long three car war with Bob Close and Bob Babbitt.  Those three traded positions several times throughout the race. (note -  complete BRP Dart Challenge report nest week after audit)

Bob Close gave Ron Scharf’s pretty Gowanda Harley Davidson sponsored Camaro a good solid run to round out the top five finishers.  Close was doing double duty tonight with both BRP CanAm (360 late model) and his super late with the WoO.

Bob Babbitt had his best run in a very long time.  Babbitt started second and fell to finish sixth, but was fast all race long.  Mike Wonderling continued his strong 2012 campaign when he brought his Wonderling Logging entry home 7th after starting 14th.  Dave DuBois was mired in heavy traffic all race long and not able to make any forward progress.  The guy making forward progress was Billy VanPelt. VanPelt earned the Dart Hard Charger award with his run from 26th to 9th in the Charles McGregor Chevy.  Brian Knowles rounded out the top ten in a car that was not handling well at all.  “It was so bad that I thought about parking it.  I held on and scored a few points,” share the race winners brother.

Notes: F/A Products Engine Builder heat race winners were John Waters, Bruce Miller, and Jason Knowles… …Brian Hoffman won the Gater Racing Photo News Leader of the Pack Award when his girl friend drew the number 1 pill for the heat race starting lineups…Both VanPelt and Hoffman made their first BRP Dart Challenge starts…Wally Wade was not able to answer the call for the A-Main after an heat race crash…After Series weekly events at Black Rock, Raceway 5, and Woodhull the next Series Tour events are Saturday September 8 at Woodhull and the 2012 Tour Championship at Little Valley on Saturday September 15

Points-Points-Points and more Points
…BRP Dart Challenge Champion & LVS E-Mod Champion Will Be Crowned…

Little Valley, NY…What is the point?  Race drivers race for prize money, the thrill of competition, and points.  Points generally result in some sort of cash reward, a trophy, and perhaps most important bragging rights.

Point standings are maintained for a variety of contests using a variety of formulas. Several will be in play on Wednesday August 29 at Little Valley Speedway (LVS). Two point champions will be crowned and points will be accumulated for four additional contests.

Championships will be on the line for the Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) Dart Challenge for the 360 late models and the Little Valley Speedway E-Mods.  In addition the World of Outlaws Late Model Series drivers will be racing for points in their 45 event cross country touring series, both the 360 late model and super late model drivers will be racing for LVS track points in their next to last 2012 event, and finally home track bonus points for the 360 late models in their pursuit of the BRP CanAm Series Tour.

John Waters will enter the Wednesday August 29 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) Dart Challenge at Little Valley Speedway (LVS) undefeated in this year’s Challenge and headed for a repeat of his 2011 Challenge championship.  Only if Waters does not start the A-Main will he not be the 2012 BRP Dart Challenge Champion since Jason Knowles, second in the standings, trails by 60 points.  The point spread is 60 from first (100) to last (40).

There is plenty of room to change the order behind Waters.  The battle for second thru fourth is separated by a mere 10 points.

BRP Dart Challenge Top Ten: John Waters – 400, Jason Knowles – 340, Jeremy Wonderling – 336, Jared Hill – 330, Bruce Miller – 310, Mike Wonderling – 295, Dusty Waters – 276, Mikey Wonderling – 270, Brian Knowles – 249, Steve LeBarron - 234

The LVS point program almost guarantees very close point standings. The track awards 30 points to the winner, 28 for second and drops one point per position third to last.  Given that the LVS super late model teams will be racing with the World of Outlaws late model teams on Wednesday the track will award 30 points to all drivers that enter.  This guarantees that all drivers racing for points will be in attendance on Wednesday and leaves the battle for the LVS super late model championship to be settled on Saturday September 15.

In LVS E-Mod competition Randy Hall, Brett Rhebergen, and Steve Dixon have shuffled their finishes in the top three positions all season long in some very spirited racing.  Hall has won often over many years.  Dixon won his first ever in the most recent LVS program last month.  Hall holds a slim 3 point advantage over Rhebergen and Dixon who are tied for second. This promises to be good as the E-Mods complete their LVS season.

LVS E-Mod Top Ten: Randy Hall – 87, Brent Rhebergen – 84, Steve Dixon – 84, Kyle Bedell – 71, Justin Carlson – 69, Rich Michael – 62, Kyle Inman – 59, Kirk Bradley – 56, Nathan Hill – 50, Chad Silleman – 46

In LVS 360 late model competition second generation race car driver Mikey Wonderling leads a closely contested battle that has produced a new point leader after every event this season.  Mikey has been very consistent, but has yet to pick up an LVS win.  “Not this year or ever.  I almost had one a couple of years ago, but broke an axle on the last lap,” reported Mikey from the cab of his truck recently. “It sure would be nice to win at the (Little) Valley with the (World of) Outlaws watching. Cheez (Jeff Chesebro) freshened the motor last week and it is good.  We will see if it good enough to win or at least hold on to the point lead.”

In LVS super late model standings Jason Dupont won the opening race of the 2012 campaign and the Cyclone, PA driver has been good enough ever since to hold on to that point lead.  Dupont and the other LVS super late drivers will enjoy the lack of pressure for track points as they take on the traveling World of Outlaws.  Foremost on their minds will be to simply qualify for the richest race ever held at the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds track. $11,000 is waiting for any area driver that can beat the Outlaws.

LVS Super Late Model Top Ten: Jason Dupont – 83, Boom Briggs – 75, Mike Knight – 74, Ron Davies – 74, Bump Hedman – 70, Dick Barton – 67, Greg Oakes – 65, Dutch Davies – 62, Chad Valone – 59, Brent Rhebergen

For the World of Outlaws the LVS event is the 35th in their 45 event schedule for 2012.  Darrell Lanigan has been on a tear, but he will have a whole new challenge on Wednesday.  Lanigan and most of his fellow travelers have ever even seen LVS.  The Outlaws are hungry since they were rained out at Winchester, VA on Saturday and at Selinsgrove, PA on Sunday. The tracks high speed configuration will favor the locals who have logged many miles and in some cases many wins at LVS.  Heading that list is Ron Davies.  Davies lives in Warren, PA and after traveling with the Outlaws last year is racing locally in 2012. He won the most recent SLM event at LVS and owns several victories at the high speed Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds track.

World of Outlaws Late Model Series Top Ten: Darrell Lanigan – 4472, Rick Eckert – 4318, Tim McCreadie- 4142, Shane Clanton – 4114, Chub Frank – 4090, Bub McCool – 3974, Clint Smith – 3948, Vic Coffey – 3858, Tim Fuller- 3744, Pat Doar – 3730

BRP CanAm Series drivers race for home track bonus points at every event that they enter.  Those bonus points are added to the points earned in Series Tour events.  Only Woodhull Raceway on September 8 and LVS on September 15 remain on the 2012 schedule so home track points are on everyone’s radar screen.

BRP CanAm Series Top Ten: Bruce Miller – 470, John Waters – 427, Mikey Wonderling – 402, Jeremy Wonderling – 381, Dusty Waters – 359, Mike Wonderling – 347, Jason Knowles – 322, Brian Knowles – 311, Quinn Sutherland – 300, Dave Dubois - 268

Little Valley Speedway gates will open at 1:00 on Wednesday August 29 for what promises to be the biggest event ever at the track which first opened to race cars in 1932.  Cars will go on the track for hot laps prior to time trials at 6:30. Additional information @ LittleValleySpeedway.com

BRP Dart Challenge Championship Next @ Little Valley
   …John Waters Looking For A Clean Sweep…

Little Valley, NY…John Waters will enter the Wednesday August 29 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) Dart Challenge at Little Valley Speedway (LVS) undefeated in this year’s Challenge and headed for a repeat of his 2011 Challenge championship.

Only if Waters does not start the A-Main will he not be the 2012 BRP Dart Challenge Champion since Jason Knowles, second in the standings, trails by 60 points.  The point spread is 60 from first (100) to last (40).

“A clean sweep of all five races is, of course, what our team wants, but the odds of doing that are slim, especially at Little Valley. For sure we will be ready.  We have had a great year, but Little Valley is our toughest track.  It will be nice to go there with the points cushion we have, but make no mistake about it - we want to win the race! Having the Challenge championship on the same program as the (World of) Outlaws will be great for the Series and all of our teams.” reports Waters as he prepares his Troups Creek Auto Parts CRS Camaro for the Black Rock on Friday and Woodhull on Saturday.  After the weekend it will be a quick scramble to prepare for Little Valley on Wednesday.

“We have to keep on top of this deal.  We are leading in points at Black Rock (his Friday race place) and at Woodhull (his Saturday race place).  Not so good at Little Valley (tied for 6th), but we have two more races there so you never know.”

Waters is the only driver in the BRP Dart Challenge top ten that has a comfortable point margin.

If Jason Knowles looks over his shoulder he will see the smiling face of Jeremy Wonderling who sits third only 4 points behind Knowles. Jeremy has Jared Hill breathing down his back with just a six point deficit. The drivers are all vying for a top ten spot in the final standings since that is were the $3000 cash point fund will go. Of course, the race winner will earn $1000 from Little Valley Speedway.

More than cash – Perhaps more important than the cash are the Dart block and the Dart heads which are also part of the Challenge payoff.  The top ten plus all others with a perfect (5 race) Challenge attendance record will be included in the drawings for the Dart products.

Current point standings (top 15 of 32): John Waters – 400, Jason Knowles – 340, Jeremy Wonderling – 336, Jared Hill – 330, Bruce Miller – 310, , Mike Wonderling – 295, Dusty Waters – 276, , Mikey Wonderling – 270, Brian Knowles – 249,  Steve LeBarron – 234, Barry Payne – 232, Wally Wade – 215, Quinn Sutherland – 212, Bob Stilson – 202, Carl Cleveland -157

The BRP Dart Challenge is a cooperative effort between John Charlesworth of Little Valley Speedway and Dean Hoag of Black Rock Speedway. The Challenge offers a $6500 point fund through the cooperation of Dart Machinery of Troy, Michigan.  Dart designs and manufacturers high performance engine blocks, cylinder heads, and intake manifolds for oval track, drag race, street, and marine applications.  Dart information @ DartHeads.com

The BRP Dart Challenge Championship and the Little Valley Speedway E-Mod Championship will provide support events for the first ever appearance of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series at the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds race track in downtown Little Valley, NY

Lanigan Completes Perfect Road Trip With Triumph At Wisconsin’s Shawano Speedway

Record-Setter Captures Sixth Straight Win, Becomes Alltime Winningest Driver On World of Outlaws Late Model Series

SHAWANO, WI – Aug. 7, 2012 – Darrell Lanigan made more World of Outlaws Late Model Series history on Tuesday night at Shawano Speedway.

Completing a spectacular road trip to the Upper Midwest, Lanigan registered a convincing victory in the ‘Mid-States Equipment 50’ to extend his record-setting win streak to six and become the national tour’s alltime winningest driver.

Lanigan, 42, of Union, Ky., roared off the outside pole to grab the lead on the opening lap and never looked back, pacing the entire distance to register his 13th win of 2012 and the 39th of his career on the WoO LMS. He overtook Josh Richards and Billy Moyer to move atop the national tour’s career win list for both the modern era (2004-present) and overall (including the original 1988-89 seasons).

“It’s unbelievable,” said Lanigan, who captured Shawano’s WoO LMS event for the second consecutive year. “It’s a real honor to be at the top of that (alltime win) list. It means a lot.”

Lanigan dominated the A-Main, keeping his rivals at arm’s length throughout behind the wheel of his Cornett-powered Rocket. WoO LMS rookie Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., was able to close within a car’s length of Lanigan late in the distance, but he couldn’t make a serious bid and crossed the finish line 0.214 of a second behind the victor in his Victory Circle mount.

Tim Fuller of Watertown, N.Y., briefly grabbed second from McCool on a lap-15 restart but settled for a third-place finish. It was his best outing since moving to the seat of the Kennedy Motorsports Capital Race Car.

Brady Smith of Solon Springs, Wis., placed fourth and defending WoO LMS champion Rick Eckert of York, Pa., finished fifth. Both drivers ran Team Zero by Bloomquist machines.

Lanigan led by nearly a straightaway early in the race, but he cooled his jets as the A-Main wound down to make sure tire wear wouldn’t hamper his effort.

“I know last year there was some cars that blew out tires late in the race, so I was just trying to be conservative there at the end and finish,” said Lanigan. “Anytime you get to lapped traffic when it’s rubber, you don’t want to catch ‘em. I was just trying to slow the pace down a little bit.”

McCool, 35, was satisfied just to follow the country’s hottest dirt Late Model driver under the checkered flag.

“I felt the longer the race run under green, we was getting better and better and I could get to (Lanigan) a little bit,” said McCool, who registered his seventh top-five finish of the 2012 WoO LMS campaign. “But I don’t know if could’ve gotten by him. Hell, he was right down around that bottom in the rubber and it would’ve been hard to do anything.

“But with our last few finishes, we’re happy with anything in the top five. It was a good night for us.”

Lanigan’s $10,650 win put a put a cap on his perfect – and very lucrative – three-race WoO LMS swing. He began the trip on Aug. 4 with a $50,000 triumph in the USA Nationals 100 at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., and then outdueled Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., to win Monday night’s 50-lapper at Independence (Iowa) Motor Speedway.

The checkered-flag hat trick was worth $71,350 and pushed his WoO LMS earnings for the 2012 season to an astounding $269,400 after just 30 races. He also extended his points lead to 170 points over Eckert as he chases his second career championship with 12 races remaining on the schedule.

Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., finished sixth after his attempts to make time on the outside of the track on the lap-30 restart caused him to fall out of the top five. Frankie Heckenast Jr. of Orland Park, Ill., was seventh; Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., quietly moved forward from the 15th starting spot to place eighth; Vic Coffey of Caledonia, N.Y., finished ninth despite switching to a backup ignition halfway through the race and running the last 10 laps on seven cylinders; and Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, Ga., advanced from 18th to round out the top 10.

The race’s most significant casualties were polesitter Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa., who relinquished second place due to a broken rearend on lap three; Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., who spun out of 10th place on lap 30 due to a broken j-bar bolt; and rookie Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind., who retired after cutting a right-rear tire while running fifth on lap 40.

Thirty-seven cars were signed in for the event, which was run on brilliantly clear summer evening. The race had been postponed by wet track conditions following a thunderstorm on its original Aug. 1 date.

Fuller was quickest in Ohlins Shocks Time Trials with a lap of 20.151 seconds, earning his third fast-time honor of the 2012 season but first since joining the Kennedy Motorsports team.

Heat winners were Fuller, Eckert, Lanigan and McCreadie. The B-Mains were captured by Paul Parker of Kaukauna, Wis., and Clanton.

The next action for the WoO LMS is a Michigan doubleheader on Aug. 17 at Winston Speedway in Rothbury and Aug. 18 at Merritt Raceway in Lake City.  The following weekend the WoO LMS heads to Winchester, VA and Selinsgrove, PA.  Then it will be the much anticipated first ever trip to Little Valley (NY) Speedway on Wed. Aug. 29.

John Waters Continues BRP Dart Challenge Series Dominance at Black Rock
…2011 BRP Dart Challenge Champion Headed For 2012Repeat

Rich Vleck, DUNDEE, NY, (August 3, 2012)- John Waters has been the standard of the late model division all year long, particularly at Black Rock Speedway; but when it comes to Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) Dart Challenge events, he was a perfect three-for-three.

Waters, of Whitesville, scored his fifth win in seven attempts at the 4/10-mile oval this season, taking the lead for good on lap nine from his younger brother Dustin and holding off Jared Hill over the second half of the race to remain a perfect four-for-four in the BRP Dart Challenge Series.

Waters started fifth by virtue of the redraw and was clearly the class of the field early on, darting around competitors on the top of the track.  Dustin was solid on the bottom but John would prevail on the top of the track.  Over the second half of the race though, he moved the Troups Creek No. 11 to the bottom, but there was a reason for that.

“I don’t know what is going on.  I think we got lucky again because I the last caution I think we lost brakes,” said Waters in Victory Lane.  “I should have just gone back to the top but my guys were giving me hand signals in turn three to stay low and they haven’t steered me wrong yet.”

Just after John captured the lead from Dustin for the first time on lap seven, but lapped traffic would force the brothers, along with Hill, to weave through the pack.  Dustin would get shuffled back to third, while local favorite Hill would have a chance to pounce on the restart, but John was solid for final seven circuits.

Behind John Waters, Hill and Dustin Waters was a Wonderling family feud for the final top five positions as Mikey was fourth while his brother Jeremy captured fifth at the line over their dad Mike.

BRP Dart Challenge @ Black Rock Friday
…John Waters Hopes to Extend Streak…

Dundee, NY…John Waters will enter Friday’s (Aug 3) Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) Dart Challenge at Black Rock Speedway (BRS) undefeated after three Challenge events. Waters hopes
to extend his Challenge win streak to four and then make it a clean sweep when the Challenge concludes at Little Valley Speedway on Wednesday August 29.

“We will take each race one at a time.  It would be cool to win them all, but the odds of doing that are not great.  We have had a dream season so far this year and, of course, we want it to continue winning.  Dale (LeBarron - car owner) has given me everything we need to win, but many of the other guys have good stuff too.  I have had a lot of good luck which plays heavily into the success we have been enjoying.  Our luck changed on Saturday at Woodhull when I got caught up in a crash.  I hope that kind of luck is behind us,” shared Waters from his race shop in Whitesville, NY

Thirteen wins, a bunch of top five finishes, and only twice has Waters not finished a race this season.  That is the definition of a “dream season.”

Included in Waters’s win total are four of the six BRP late model events completed to date at BRS.  He has accumulated eight wins including the last four in a row at Woodhull Raceway and a single win at Little Valley Speedway. A “dream season” indeed!

The only drivers to beat Waters at BRS this year are Bruce Miller and Mike Wonderling.  Both of those drivers will enter Friday’s event with the sole objective of adding to their win total.

Jason Knowles, the 2009 Black Rock late model champion, has finished second to Waters in both prior Challenge events and the second generation driver from Painted Post will be out to reverse the finishing order on the 3rd.  Knowles is currently second in Challenge points, just 25 points behind Waters.

Current point standings (top 10 of 29): John Waters – 300, Jason Knowles – 275, Jeremy Wonderling – 256, Bruce Miller – 238, Jared Hill – 235, Mike Wonderling – 219, Brian Knowles – 187, Dusty Waters – 186, Mikey Wonderling – 185, Barry Payne - 174

The BRP Dart Challenge is a cooperative effort between John Charlesworth of Little Valley Speedway and Dean Hoag of Black Rock Speedway. The Challenge offers a $6500 point fund for six events.

Black Rock Speedway gates will open at 5:00 on Friday (August 3).  Cars will go on the track for hot laps at 6:15 and the first green flag at 7:00; additional information @ BlackRockSpeedway.com

BRP CanAm Late Model Series News

Bruce Miller Repeats In Brock Young Memorial
   …Second 2012 BRP CanAm Series Win & 10th since 2003…

Little Valley, NY …Bruce Miller won the 10th Annual Brock Young Memorial at Little Valley Speedway on Friday the 13th.

Miller’s win was his second Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Tour event in two weeks.  His win increased his Series point lead to 43 points.  The second generation race car driver has moved to third on the all-time BRP winners’ list with 10 wins and within one of Jeff Chesebro and Jeremy Wonderling, each of whom own 11 Tour wins out of the 108 events completed since July 2003.

“I didn’t really let the Friday the 13th thing bother me until about half way through the race when a major vibration and noise started coming from the back of the car.  I didn’t know what it was and thought something was going to fail.  After the race, we found a broken pullbar biscuit.  This race is very special to all of our (Bicknell Racing Products CanAm Series) race teams. I am really honored to be in Victory Lane with the Young family.” shared the always quiet, always humble, and always quick Miller.

Miller now owns both the 2011 (9th Annual) and 2012 (10th Annual) Brock Young Memorial trophies.  The 6’ (taller than Miller) chrome and gold trophy provided by the Young family and a beautiful trophy check crafted by Heath Cousins at Cousins Designs will both be great additions to the “Wall of Fame” at the Miller race shop on Hallsport Road in Wellsville, NY.

Mikey Wonderling and Jason Knowles shared the front row for the start of the 22 lap contest.  Knowles took off as if shot from a cannon to lead the first five laps.  It appeared that Knowles had the superior car as he and Miller (from third) had a great tussle on the new very fast and very sticky Little Valley clay.  Miller out maneuvered Knowles and set sail for the checkers.

Miller may have set sail, but John Waters had his eye on the trophy, the points, and the $1422 check that were waiting for the winner. Waters started 11th and steadily moved forward.  The Whitesville, NY driver made it to second with five laps to go and took aim on Miller’s blue #80.  Waters did not have anything in reserve and the winningest dirt late model driver in the northeast had to settle for the show spot behind Miller for the second BRP Tour event in two weeks.

The emotional story of the night was authored by Mikey Wonderling.  Mikey and his car owners, Sharon and Jim Schuyler, had their graphics designer prepare number 22 wraps for the sides of their car, which normally wears Schuyler’s long time car number 57j.  Number 22 was another tribute to Brock Young and the Young family since Brock’s race car number was 22.  The plan was that Mikey would pace the field for a few parade laps regardless of his starting position.  By the luck of the draw, Mikey drew the #1 chip and was able to pace the field for four very emotional parade laps before Johnny Powell’s green sent the field into battle.  Mikey raced in the top five all race long and ended up third.  His third place finish moved him to the top of the Little Valley point standings and third in BRP CanAm Series points.

Little Valley, NY…It is expected that about 30 race teams will enter the 10th Annual Brock Young Memorial on Friday, July 13, at Little Valley Speedway (LVS).  Qualifying races will determine the 24 starters for the 22 lap (yes 22 laps) A-Main where $1422 is posted for the winner of this Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Late Model Series Tour event.

There will be 24 starters and 24 potential winners.  A quick look at some of the favorites:

John Waters - A betting man’s favorite might be Waters.  Waters has eleven BRP CanAm wins already this year. Included on John’s very impressive 2012 resume are two (of four) BRP CanAm Series Tour wins, three (of three) BRP Dart Challenge events, and the balance BRP CanAm Weekly events.  John’s first and only LVS win came in the June Dart Challenge.

Jeremy Wonderling - A two time winner of Brock’s Race (2004 & 2008) would relish a win on Friday night for many reasons.  Mr. Excitement is the defending BRP CanAm Series and defending LVS track champion. He currently leads track points at the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds track.

Bruce Miller - The defending race champion is always a threat to win at LVS.  Bruce leads the BRP CanAm Tour point standings and is coming off an impressive win in the Series Tour event at Black Rock last week.

Dave DuBois – “The Outlaw” is a former winner at LVS and had a close second place finish in the season opener at the big fast half-mile.  DuBois owns five wins at Raceway 5 already this year.  The Brock Young trophy would dwarf those already on the mantle.

Jon Rivers – Jon has been running Raceway 5 weekly. He has two wins there so far this year.  Jon’s racing travel has been limited as he tends to the business of ownership change in the family business which he recently bought from his father.  Jon was quick in his one and only LVS start this year, but was slowed by a broken shock.  He has all new Bilsteins on the #85 and is ready for his first ever LVS win.

Glenn Whritenour – Glenn’s last trip to LVS was not good!  He blew the motor while running second and was credited with 20th and DNF.  On the way home the turbo blew on the tow vehicle.  It is a long 100 mile trip between Little Valley and Jasper under ideal conditions, but with a truck capable of only 10-15 MPH it is a very long trip!  There is a new engine in Glenn’s race car and a new turbo in the truck.  Glenn owns two Woodhull wins this year and would love to add Brock’s Race to his list of wins.

Mike Wonderling – The patriarch of the racing Wonderling family has a pair Series Weekly event wins; one at Black Rock and the other at Woodhull.  The veteran chauffer is having a solid season showing second (tied with son Mikey) at LVS, fifth (tied with Dusty Waters) in BRP CanAm Tour standings, and sixth in the BRP Dart Challenge standings.  It has been suggested that if Mike wins on Friday he will be known as “Magic Mike.”

Adam Depuy – Depuy surprised many with his recent win at Raceway 5.  He was fast at a Dart Challenge race at Black Rock.  Those have been his only two starts this year.  The Nance’s Hot & Spicy Special would look great under the BRP CanAm Victory Lane banner on Friday night.

Jason Knowles – “The Jet” has a Woodhull win on his 2012 resume.  One win does not properly reflect the potential or performance of the younger of Larry’s racing boys.  Jason has two runner-up finishes at Black Rock and a fourth at LVS in his 2012 record book.  He stands second in BRP Dart Challenge points and ninth in BRP CanAm Series Tour points.  His dad owns a Brock Young Memorial trophy and a second one would make for great conversation at Doug Gross Construction (one of the family businesses).

Dusty Waters – Dusty was the surprise winner at LVS in May.  We should not have been surprised since he had won there last year.  If Dusty wins on Friday we will not be surprised and the first guy to congratulate him in Victory Circle will be his big brother – John.

So far for the 2012 BRP CanAm Series there have been 28 events and 10 different A-main winners. So far, obviously that could change on Friday night.  Those to be considered include: Bob Close, Jared Hill, Jim Johnson, Brian Knowles, Buck Payne, Quinn Sutherland, Steve Watson, and Mikey Wonderling.  Those drivers have one or more top five finishes and all have a legitimate shot at winning the 10th Annual Brock Young Memorial.

The list of potential winners goes on.  We will all know whose name goes on the 10th Annual Brock Young Memorial check by about 10PM on Friday.

Most important, we know they are all winners and winning another race is just part of the game.
