Kurzon 'Moose' Cary

SCHUYLER LAKE _ Kurzon "Moose" Cary, 85, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, with his family at his side.

He was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Cooperstown, the son of Alfred Lee and Mabel (Snyder) Cary. He married Hannah Root on Feb. 13, 1943. They shared a union of 56 years until her death in 1999.

Moose was a W.W.II veteran serving with the Army Pipeline Construction Unit. He helped to construct the Burma Road in India. He was awarded an Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and W.W.II Victory Medal.

He worked as a lineman for Bell Telephone Co. until his retirement in 1981.

He was a member of the Cooperstown Vets Club and the Milford American Legion.

Moose was an avid stockcar driver for many years racing at tracks such as Morris Speedway, Five Mile Point, Lebanon Valley and Skyline Raceway. He loved watching NASCAR and football.

Moose is survived by his daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Dan Barringer of Richfield Springs; a son, Donald and his wife, Darlene of Apopka, Fla.; two very special grandsons, Kevin Laymon of Richfield Springs and Brian Laymon of Schuyler Lake; a grandson, Donald Cary Jr. and his wife, Jodie of Apopka, Fla.; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Arnold of Melbourne, Fla.

In keeping with Moose's wishes there will be no public calling hours or services.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
