RWD or FWD 4cyl??
« on: December 28, 2017, 09:49:01 AM »
Building a 4cyl racer for next year. Track allows for both FWD and RWD. do RWD's even stand a chance anymore against FWD? I was debating on doing a mustang build but they only like 88hp stock to start. Meanwhile you can get FWD's that are 150-190hp stock. I tend to believe the RWD's handle better but when your down 50-100hp off the bat its killer. Even a mild build on a 2.3 isn't going to get you anywhere near that 190 hp. the top guys at the track are in the 190hp range FWD. That's probably my answer but wanted to hear from others.

Unless I'm mistaken, Brewerton and Fulton had some pretty open rules for FWD cars. Preludes are close to 200hp stock, and Acura RSX is close to 250 stock. Lots of aftermarket parts available. Unless the RWD are also open, I would think the FWD cars would walk all over them. If you get ahold of Donny Rider on Facebook, he might be able to give you some more info, he runs there in a FWD.

Chuck Powelczyk dominated for years until very recently at Brewerton and Fulton, driving a VW Rabbit. Don't believe there was any high horsepower there. But I never tore him down either.  ;D ;D ;D
