Turbo Blue Rap Up:
Thirty years in the making and Friday night at 7:30 when the green flag dropped it was the 30th anniversary of the turbo blue weekend. After a dismal sophomore season for Dean and Donna Catlin at the helm of Skyline Raceway Park finally the waiting paid off all season they were treated by race cars and fans as well.
Without a question it hasn't been for a lack of trying. Although the staff and management at Skyline Raceway Park remained optimistic but drawing cars and fans have been an absolute challenge. That changed with this year's running of the 30th anniversary turbo blue weekend as we seen over 100 cars in the pit area and a grandstands that was as healthier than any night all season long!
One thing that Skyline Raceway Park has had abundance of all season long is great side-by-side White Knuckle battles to the Finish on a regular every Friday night that Mother Nature didn't spoil the party. And the turbo blue didn't disappoint with racing throughout the field that was at times on the edge of your seat and a lot of wow moments.
The street stock feature took to the racetrack with Shane Wolf Jr multi-time feature winner starting on the outside Pole a lot of critics thought you could write the check but 2017 SRP champion Lanson Albanese put on a memorable 18 lap side by side battle that will go down in the record books as one of the best recorded Street Stock main events in history of the Virgil New York speed plant! There was dicing for position all through the field but because of Albanese and Wolf you couldn't take your eyes off the lead position. Wolf occupying the middle to upper portion of the speedway and Albanese was catfishing all the way around the uke tires of the 3/8 clay oval. The amount of respect and class that the two drivers showed was an absolute treat just to behold and made the capacity crowd respond with a standing ovation at the end Wolf put his NEP Wireless Denny Decker logging number 81 in Victory Lane with a 2017 SRP Champion Lansing Albanese driving his newly repainted and Bodied Pop's Automotive #14 war wagon less than a half a car length behind him when the double checkered Flags flew.
The racing White's from Candor New York took their white show on the road and did it in style. Some six weeks ago Brian White a prominent open Sportsman racer in the Southern Tier visited the Skyline Raceway Park on a Friday night for a little test and tune since that night his Quicks logging Genesis racing shocks number 56 has not left checkerboard Square at SRP. On this night it was by far Brian's hardest challenge that came in the form of Kevin Jordan’s double deuce. Jordan with an extra pep in his step after a dominant qualifying Heat win was poised to give White a run for his money and the $1,100 payday. And that's exactly what happened Jordan lead from the drop of the green all the way to lap 21. White got around him down in one and two that same lap Jordan pulled even down the front straightaway and made an amazing slide job to recapture the lead at the exit of two the two racers then ensued on a side-by-side battle for the next six circuits Brian White would grab the lap 27 lead and the last three laps to cap off a 6 in a row win streak and $1,100 payday.
Normally competing against each other in the open Sportsman ranks his father fast Eddie White acquired a crate motor and put it in for the turbo blue which seen him Victorious. Nearly 30 years in the racing business Friday night certainly caught up too the racer known as fast Eddie. On a personal level to capture the main event win but also as a father who is so proud of his well-respected son Brian. Eddie Was Heard saying this is what people dream about to win both main events in the same night as your son I couldn't be more proud of him my family and these teams. Usually not a man of many words the Candor New York veteran was all smiles from ear-to-ear and you could tell he was just embracing the moment as the two had their cars parked in Victory Lane bumper to bumper for a family photo that will never leave the memory bank.
