RUSH POST-RACE COMPLETE ENGINE TEARDOWN CONFIRMS LEGALITY OF POTOMAC MAY 24 EVENT WINNER DARIN HENDERSON
By Mike Leone

May 28, 2015      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Pulaski, PA)…On Tuesday, May 26, the GM 604 crate engine from May 24 Potomac Speedway Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Late Model Weekly Series event winner Darin Henderson was inspected during a complete tear-down by RUSH Competition Director Travis Harry.  The conclusive results were that Henderson's engine rebuilt by Racetek Race Engines of Dalton, Georgia met the specs per the GM Tech Manual.  With this finding, Henderson's victory was confirmed.

From late June 2014 through Sunday, Henderson was victorious four times in eight tries at Potomac and five times out of seven tries at Winchester Speedway raising concerns by his fellow competitors and speedway officials.  After sweeping the weekend events at Winchester and Potomac, RUSH and Speedway Officials felt the teardown was necessary despite a very thorough post-race tech inspection following the Bazell/Sunoco Southern Tour event on May 8.

"It's our job to make sure everyone is abiding by the standards set forth in not only the RUSH rules, but most importantly the GM Tech Manual, which clearly defines the permitted parameters of a rebuilt engine," explained RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig.  "We along with our sister series, NeSmith, take the authorizing of engine rebuilders very seriously and are continually policing their work to ensure a level playing field for our competitors to preserve the integrity of our series.  Even though drivers have the ability to file a protest, every so often there comes a time where it's in the best interest of the Series, speedways, and racers for a complete teardown of an engine to occur.  Darin Henderson and his family were very cooperative from the time the engine was confiscated through the entire teardown process.  The findings will now allow Darin and his team the ability to get back to focusing on racing."

“This entire process is one of the many benefits speedways and its racers receive under RUSH sanctioning,” said RUSH Co-Director Mike Leone.  “We’re not just about paying large point funds and promoting our racers, but just as important are only a phone call away to help assist speedway with technical questions, tech support, and the engine teardown/protest process.  We realize speedway tech officials can only do so much on race night with several other divisions to worry about.  We encourage them to contact us if they are concerned about an issue, as it’s always our responsibility when a teardown becomes necessary or a protest is filed.”

Henderson is currently fourth in the $5,000 to-win Sweeney Weekly Series points that concludes September 30, and is in a qualifying spot for the $3,000 to-win Pace Performance "Summer Chase" that begins on July 1.  In 2014, Henderson finished sixth in the Sweeney Weekly Series points and runner-up in the Pace "Summer Chase."
