Title: Black Rock Nov. 5th, $1000.00, $1000.00, $1000.00, $10,000 TO WIN
Post by: Walt on October 24, 2011, 07:56:06 PM
Nov. 5th at Black Rock someone is going to win $10,000 in a car that will probably be worth about a $1000.00 and the good news is you still have time to build one. Take a 4 cylinder FWD car knock the windows out put a cage and racing seat & belts in and come race. It that easy. No racing tires, no beefing up the chassis, no performance racing stuff in the motors - just a completely STOCK FWD 4 Cylinder car with a cage and racing seat & belts and your racing for $10,000.

Also on the card will be the IMCA modifieds racing for $1000.00 in a Fast Shaft Qualifier Plus the Crate Motor Sportsman and the OPEN Motor Sportsman both racing for $1000.00 each. No Gear Rule for the OPEN Motor Sportsman.

Plus the Adult & Youth demo's

I'm pretty sure the enduro just pays the winner, I may be wrong..

P.s. Im still available if anybody is looking for a driver for the 10k race. The stock tranny in my car isnt geared for blackrock, but I want to run. Car owner can keep the money if I win. I just want a big trophy and my name in the paper  ;D

How much does the IMCA pay to start? Or could you post the full payout?
How many laps?
Pit admission cost?

Something tells me you're not gonna get an answer Andy.... Seems like whenever there is a big IMCA race, no one ever wants to post anything but, the winners share. Not just picking on Black Rock here, seems that way with all tracks.

That kind of sucks Kevin. Leads me to two thoughs on the matter.
1. It sucks that bad throughout the field that they dont want to publish it in fear of cars not showing up.

but on the other hand

2. You may get more cars if its a respectable pay throughout the field.

I'm jonesin to race and trying to do the math if its worth it to go give it hell for a bit. I dont know. 160 miles round trip, 9 gallons of hauler fuel = $33 plus 5 gallons for the car $20, guessing pit fee is $30. HHHMMMMM $83 to show up. If it was $75 to start I'd scratch my head and seriously consider it.

Normally pit fee is $25.00, and it's $50.00 to take the green, but, I have no idea what it will be for this one.
From what you told me, you are WAY over geared for there. Unless you have another gear to put in, I wouldn't chance it.

Yeah it would not work in first gear but I was thinking maybe second gear. Like you said though, may be better off not chanceing it. Cause if 2nd dont work and dont make the feature, then I'm really up the creek.

Wasnt bitching. Just askin. The payout for the 4cyl is clearly posted for everyone to see so I thought the IMCA's would be as readily available.

Makes no sense why these tracks just dont post the full payouts for all classes. Shouldnt have to jump through hoops to find out the info. It always has to be a big game. Put it on your websites.

It's a great track Andy. If you can solve the gearing issue, you should definitely give it a try...

Kevin, I'm wondering how it would go in 2nd gear? I dont really know the ration for powerglide second gear.

1:1 so whatever the rear gear is, that would be your final drive.

Yes 2nd in a powerglide is 1:1 just like high gear in a 3 or 4 speed. If I remember right, we calculated that you had around a 3.63 rear gear. Which is gonna be really under geared. You definitely won't over rev it. If you keep your momentum up you could probably get 5 grand out of it.

If you have 360(?) gears in the rear, even with a 1.76 powerglide, your final drive is 6.33. That sounds REALLY high. I was getting 7,200rpm out of 5:67's at 5 Mile. It's a little worse if you have a 1.82

He has a crate motor with a 1.82 powerglide. We figured he had a 6.60 final ratio. He runs Brewerton. I forget what he said he was getting RPM wise.

6200 chip and on a dry/slick track i'm hitting it just getting into the corners at brewerton. I probably could drop some gear or someday get a different tranny set up. Seems to be working right now just makes traveling to larger tracks tough. If its wet and tacky, I'm hitting the chip way sooner and basicaly a lame duck at that point. Brewerton was dry/slick more times than not and we ran after the big blocks most nights so it all worked out well. Especially after I got the car scaled and could run the bottom. If I have some extra cash over the winter I may put different gears in, but as for right now a different tranny set up is out of the question. Have a Disney vacation in May to pay for, Wedding in September and honeymoon to Europe so any real upgrades to the car over the winter will be minimal.
