BRP CanAm Late Model Series News

2013 BRP CanAm Series Test - Tune - Tinker & RACE
…Canandaigua Motorsports Park Offers Something Different…

St Catharines, ONT…The 2013 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series will officially begin on Saturday April 13 at Woodhull Raceway with a Series weekly event program. Saturday April 27 is the date for the 11th BRP CanAm Series Tour opener.  That event too will be hosted by Ted White at his Woodhull Raceway.

Before the Series gets underway, Jeremie Corcoran has scheduled a BRP CanAm late model / crate late model event at Canandaigua Motorsports Park (CMP).  This will be an unsanctioned no points event for the BRP CanAm late models and the Fulton Speedway crate late models.  The late models will serve as the support division for the 64 lap - $6400 to win Jan Corcoran Memorial for the DIRTcar big block modifieds.

“I want to start the season with a big program.  The two - day April 5 & 6 program ought to be big enough.  On Friday (April 5) we will have a $1000 to win open tire sportsman program with 305 sprints and pure stocks as support divisions.  On Saturday (April 6) it will be our third annual Jan Corcoran Memorial as a tribute to my mother,” shared Corcoran as he took a short break from track prep on a very cold Monday afternoon.

“I put new clay down last fall. I have been taking every opportunity that Mother Nature provides to work the track and complete other facility improvements.

“I am anxious to get going.  We have a test - tune - tinker - practice night scheduled for Tuesday April 2 and then - bang - our Friday and Saturday double header. This is the 50th Anniversary Season for Canandaigua and I want it to be the best ever.

“The big block modifieds have been the backbone of the racing here at Canandaigua forever.  The late models have had only infrequent events.  This early date presents an opportunity for the BRP late models before they start there weekly and tour events and before John (Wight) and Harvey (Fink) open Fulton Raceway for their weekly crate late model program.

“Gary (Montgomery) has shared that several of the BRP CanAm teams plan to race with the crates.  Those late models all look very much the same, but the heavier BRP cars are at a disadvantage.  We will see how it all works out.”

Heading the BRP CanAm contingent will be John Waters, the 2012 BRP Dart Challenge champion, and Dave DuBois, the Raceway 5 late model champion.  Waters was a 20 time winner in 2012 earning late model track championships at Black Rock, Little Valley, and Woodhull.  Waters and his championship car have been on the show circuit first in Syracuse, then Philadelphia, last weekend in Olean, and this weekend at the Arnot Mall race car show in Horseheads.  On Saturday April 6 it is back to business at the Land of Legends!

The father - son duo of Jim and Jimmy Johnson will have their Hot Rod Lincolns ready for battle at the Land of Legends.  Jim won a BRP event at Canandaigua in 2010.  Jimmy, a sophomore at the University of Buffalo, will begin his first full season on the BRP CanAm Tour in pursuit of the $1000 Miles-Agency.com Rookie of the Year title.  There is much interest in what Kid Lightning’s (Jimmy), #39j will look like.  It is under cover at the Johnson family race car shop in Batavia.  They promise that it will be exciting!

A pair of Himrod Hot Rods can also be expected for the Canandaigua event.  Brady Wonderling is the new hired gun for Jim Schuyler’s #57j entry.  This is an all new piece from Schuyler’s Himrod Hot Rod Shop. Jared Hill has the 2012 #57j updated to his specifications and reskinned with 12j proudly displayed on the Wrisco Racing Aluminum door panels.

On Friday April 5 Woodhull Raceway will host a test - tune - tinker - practice session and again on Saturday April 6, concurrent with the Canandaigua activities.  Jim Mazur will open the gates to his Raceway 5 on Saturday May 4 for a test - tune - tinker - practice program.

The first day of spring arrives this week and the long winter is over.  The 2013 racing season is just days away…………
