BRP CanAm Tour Returns To Freedom Speedway
...Mikey Looking To Extend Point Lead...

St Catharines, ON... The Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm tour returns  to Freedom Speedway on Friday night August 8.

Mikey Wonderling, a second generation race car driver, is anxious to get this event in the books and is praying for continued good luck.  Mikey leads both the Series tour points and Freedom's BRP 360 late model point contests.

Mikey's  anxiety level grew a bit last night when Ron Scharf announced that Jeremy Wonderling, his younger brother, had accepted an invitation to fill the seat of Scharf's #65.  This is the car that Steve Dixon has won with twice at Freedom in Series weekly events.  The car and Jeremy are both very good together, which will produce some excitement.

Glenn Whritenour, the many time Woodhull champion, plans to make his 2014 tour debut on Friday.  Dave DuBois, the many time Raceway 5 champion, will return to Freedom with a mission to redeem himself from a near miss in the earlier tour event.  Mike Wonderling has won three Freedom weekly events and does not plan to slow down on Friday.  He does plan to stay off the wall.  All of this adds to Mikey's anxiety level.

Troy Shuknecht took over the operation of Freedom Speedway for the 2014 season with a commitment to returning the fine old racing facility to its former glory.  His commitment is obvious to all that have attended any of the events there this year.  The grounds are manicured, the track racy, and the competition excellent.  If you have not seen this for yourself, come on out Friday night.  The forecast is for great weather and great racing.

Freedom Speedway gates will open at 5:00 for racing at 7:00.  Updates on both the Freedom Speedway and BRP CanAm Late Model Series Facebook pages.

Brock Young Memorial Next For BRP CanAm Tour

St Catharines, ON... An annual highlight of the Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Tour is the Brock Young Memorial.  John Charlesworth, President of the Cattaraugus County Agricultural Society and Little Valley Speedway promoter, has scheduled the 12th annual running of this event for Thursday July 3

The Brock Young Memorial event was first run in 2003 to honor the life of Brock Young a BRP CanAm driver who died in a 2002 highway accident.  Since then the event has taken on added importance as it honors Roxie Young, Brock’s mother, who died of cancer in 2009.  Brock’s father, Dick, brothers AJ and Kyle, and sister Kari all work to carry on this memorial event.

For the race teams the event has special meaning for those that know the Young family.  There is a long history of racing there that started with Dick racing at Woodhull and Circle K often as a team mate with Monroe Puffer. That tradition was carried on by Brock in his #22 and AJ in his #33. The significance of the $1422 paid to the winner of the Brock Young Memorial is -  One For Twenty Two (Brock’s race car number).

Eight drivers have earned a Brock Young Memorial trophy and the $1422 check from the eleven events completed to-date.  The defending race champion is Bruce Miller who has won the event for the past three years.  Other winners of Brock's race include Bryce Davis (2010), Steve Dixon (2009), Darren Kish (2005), Larry Knowles (2007), Rich Michael, Jr (2006), Todd Rice (2003), and Jeremy Wonderling (2004 and 2008).

Little Valley Speedway gates will open at 4:00 on Thursday July 3 for race action at 7:00.  Details at www.LittleValleySpeedway.com

BRP CanAm Series Tour Start Set For Sunday
...More Added To The Purse For The Duke DuClon Memorial...
Little Valley, NY...The 2015 edition of the BRP (Bicknell Racing Products) CanAm Series tour will begin on Sunday May 25 at the Little Valley Speedway.  As previously announced family and friends of Duke DuClon working in cooperation with  Close Racing Supply have added $558 to the race winner's share of the purse for Duke's race.  That results in $1558 to the race winner.
Today we are delighted to announce that another $758 has been added to the purse.  More friends of Duke including Levi Watson Racing, Tidd's Towing, and Bicknell Racing Products have added to the purse for Duke's race.  The latest additions are to positions two thru five.  As a result the race runner-up will earn $758, third will pay $558, and fourth and fifth will each pay $258.
John Charlesworth and his team at the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds facility are ready for a spectacular start of their race season with Duke's event for BRP 360 late models and NDRL late models headlining the program which will also include E-Mods, crates, and streets.  Gates will open at 3:30 for racing action at 6:30 Sunday.
John Waters won the opening LVS event last year and hopes to repeat this year.  The odds makers at the Casino call it even between Waters, the 2013 Series champion, and Bruce Miller, the winningest BRP driver at LVS.
Already this year Waters has won two BRP CanAm Series weekly events at Woodhull and the opener at Freedom.  This clearly demonstrates that "Hot John" is hot again and off to a good start on his goal to repeat as the Series champion.  The Whitesville, NY driver has three career wins at LVS and several top five runs at the super fast half-mile.
Bruce Miller owns the BRP CanAm win record at Little Valley with eight beginning with the first ever tour event in 2003.  Since then the Wellsville, NY driver has added seven tour and several weekly event wins.  Miller's 2014 record to date is a second (to Waters) in the Woodhull opener and a DNF there last week. Miller's  Black Beauty #80 will be ready for a run to the roses on Sunday for Duke's race.
Dave DuBois and Adam Depuy are the other BRP CanAm weekly event winners so far this year.  Both will be looking for the $1558 and a jump start on the Series championship on Sunday.  Bob Close, Beamer Guzzardi, Jared Hill, Steve LeBarron, Josh Smith, Mike Wonderling, Mickey Wonderling, Glenn Whritenour, and John Zimmerman will be joined by another dozen or so all hoping for a victory on Sunday.

Waters Prepares For Repeat BRP CanAm Championship

St. Catharines, ON... The 2014 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series started with a series weekly event at Woodhull Raceway last week.  It was a perfect start for John Waters and his bid to repeat as the Series champion. Waters raced his Dale LeBarron's CRS Corvette to victory in that event.

"It was a good start, but only a start in what will be a challenging year.  The new point structure presents a different challenge.  It will be the same for everyone so it is fair, but change is always something that racers fear, shared Waters from his race car shop in Whitesville, NY.

"We really want to repeat as the BRP Champion and the best way to earn that big check and the big trophy is to win as many races, both weekly and tour events, as possible.  Our plan is to race weekly at Freedom (Speedway) on Fridays and Woodhull (Raceway) on Saturday as often as we can.  We will run all of the BRP tour events and hope that our weekly program gains us enough points for the championship. We may miss a few weekly events when we are racing the crate car"

The new point structure Waters referenced was announced earlier this year.  There is now more emphasis on home track points and less on tour event points.  Track points from Freedom Speedway, Raceway 5, and Woodhull Raceway will be normalized on September 14 with each track champion earning 1000 points, each runner-up earns 980 points, and a 10 point drop per position.  The track where the driver earns the most points becomes his home track.  Points earned in series tour events will be added to home track points to establish total series points for the 2014 championship.

BRP CanAm Series weekly events start at Raceway 5 and Freedom Raceway in May.

The 2014 BRP CanAm tour program begins at Little Valley Speedway on Sunday May 25.

Wonderling Won The Battle - Waters Won The War
…Buddies Battled All Season Long For The Crown…

Woodhull, NY…The 2013 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series concluded at Woodhull Raceway on Saturday night with all of the drama that any race fan or race promoter could have hoped for.

Jeremy Wonderling won the $1500 - 50 lap ISKY Cams Championship race while John Waters finished third. Those finishes resulted in John Waters earning the 2013 BRP CanAm Series Championship worth over $5000.  In addition, Waters won the ISKY Cams BRP CanAm Championship Month $1000 bonus.

Wonderling drew the #1 chip and started from the inside of the front row with his father, Mike Wonderling, along side.  Waters did not qualify for the top 12 redraw but did earn the fifteenth starting position.  Jeremy beat his dad at the drop of the green and knew that all he could control was where he would finish.  Wonderling knew that Waters had the tougher route to the race victory, but Waters’ 46 point advantage could only be overcome if Waters had an early DNF.

The flip side was that Waters knew if he could finish and have Wonderling’s 3j in his sights that the season-long Championship would be his.  Waters methodically worked his way forward while Wonderling was engaged in crowd pleasing battles for the top spot.

Bruce Miller, the defending Series Champion, started third with no hope for a repeat title, but with every intention of winning the race.  Miller never officially led a lap, but was along side and close behind Wonderling for 46 laps.  On lap 47 Miller’s car went up in smoke with undetermined engine failure.  The Champions bad luck continued and he was credited with 13th finishing position.  The only consolation for Miller was that he finished third in Series points.

Glenn Whritenour, the 2013 Woodhull Raceway BRP late model champion, took over Miller’s challenge to Wonderling.  Wonderling was on a mission and unless Whritenour found a sweet spot on the nearly worn out race track (after two nights of racing and several hundred laps) he knew that the battle victory would be his.  No sweet spot was found and Whritenour finished second.

In the final laps Waters did not force the issue since he had Wonderling clearly in his sights.  The Whitesville, NY driver was happy with third in the battle since he had won the war.

Another Wonderling, Mikey, authored the drive of the night and earned the Winters Performance Products Hard Charger Award.  Mikey used a provisional to make the starting field.  He then after a lap eight tangle worked his way towards the front claiming fourth at Scott Colegrove’s flying checkers.

Ray Bliss started and finished fifth.  That does not sound exciting, but in the tight confines of Ted White’s Bull Ring with 19 other rock-em-sock-em late models all clamoring for a better position it really is exciting.  Bliss was strong and steady all season long with six top five finishes in the 15 Tour events.  Bliss earned everyone’s respect and the Douglas B. Miles Insurance Agency $1000 Rookie of the Year Award.

F/A Products Engine Builder heat race wins were earned by Glenn Whritenour, Jeremy Wonderling, and Ray Bliss.  The nine car ISKY Red Zone last chance qualifier was won by Tracy Dunn.  Dunn was subbing for Quinn Sutherland and rewarded car owner Jim Schuyler with a great ride.  Dunn’s win was enough to force a smile from Schuyler!

It was another great year for the BRP CanAm Series.  A detailed season report will be developed after a few days off.  Plans and direction for 2014 Series are not yet determined.

ISKY Racing Cams Championship A-Main Finish (50 laps):  JEREMY WONDERLING, Glenn Whritenour, John Waters, Mikey Wonderling, Ray Bliss, Brian Knowles, Jason McGregor, Jay McConnell, Barry Payne, Steve LeBarron, Tracy Dunn, Mick Seeley, Bruce Miller, Jason Knowles, Josh Smith, Cecil LaBarron, Jerry Wilson, Mike Wonderling, Jared Hill, Wally Wade    DNQ: Clint Button, Carl Cleveland, Frank LeBarron, Rick Teller,

   …Woodhull off Friday - Woodhull on Saturday…

St Catharines, ON…The schedule for the ISKY Cams BRP CanAm Championship Month has been updated.

The event originally scheduled for September 7 was rained out and rescheduled for September 21.  That event was rained out also.

The plan was to run that event on Friday September 27 and then conclude the ISKY Championship Month and the BRP CanAm Series on Saturday September 28.  These Friday and Saturday programs were to be part of Woodhull Raceway’s Bull Ring Challenge Weekend.

John Waters leads both point contests, but does not have the necessary 60 point advantage to be declared Champion.  Several positions in the top ten can change on Saturday night, but the focus will be on John Waters and his Troups Creek Auto Parts #11 team as they attempt to earn their first ever BRP CanAm championship. The only point contest that can be declared official is that Ray Bliss, AKA Zeke the Streak, has won the 2013 Douglas B. Miles $1000 Rookie of the Year title

Waters Doubles In ISKY Cams BRP CanAm Events At MCR
   …Waters Retakes Series Point Lead…

E. Smethport, PA…John Waters recorded a story book weekend at McKean County Raceway (MCR) all in one day.  Waters won the Thursday September 19 event on Friday September 20.  “Hot” Waters doubled up with a victory in the scheduled Friday night program about five hours later.

Confused?

You really needed to be there to understand.  It was not pretty, but it sure was exciting. On Thursday afternoon about 175 race teams crammed the MCR pits to an over capacity situation for the start of the 8th Annual MCR Fall Classic. All of the planned qualifying was completed, but it took a very long time to accommodate all of the entries in the seven classes of cars that were scheduled.  The ISKY Cams BRP CanAm Championship Month A-Main took the green at about 12:30AM on Friday morning.  Fog had been rolling in during the preceding E-Mod main.  The fog intensified to the point that officials declared the situation unsafe. The event was rescheduled for completion at 7:00 PM on Friday to start another already busy day of racing.

No fog on Friday and day two of the 8th Annual MCR Fall Classic was underway at 7PM.  Barry (Buck) Payne, the leader when red was displayed, took John Powell’s green from his “Delaware Restart” position and charged off looking for his first ever BRP CanAm Tour win.  Payne’s only problem was John Waters.  Waters was out to earn the winner’s 100 points and secondarily the $1000.  Just short of the half way point Waters moved to the lead.  The Waters TCAP #11 showed on top of the leader board for the duration.

All of this while Jeremy Wonderling was simply making laps and making the most of the four laps he lost on Thursday night in a lap one crash.  Wonderling finished 17th to earn 48 points.

The point tally at this point was Waters with 1265 points Vs Wonderling’s 1251.

Now we move to the Friday program.

Ray (Zeke the Streak) Bliss and Mikey Wonderling paced the 26 starters for the ISKY Cams BRP Championship Month event #3.  Bliss won the drag race and was on his way to his first ever BRP CanAm Tour A-Main win.  Bliss’s problem was - you guessed it - John Waters.  Waters found a bit of traction on the bottom of turn two and moved to the top spot.   He did not have to stay there long as the checkered flags flew when the 25 minute time limit expired and Waters had his sixth win of the 2013 BRP Tour.

Wonderling was in position to make up some ground in the point battle until he was spun from third and the race was declared over.  Wonderling was scored 8th and earned 68 points.

The point tally is now Waters 1365 points Vs Wonderling’s 1319 points.  Waters is looking for his first ever BRP CanAm Championship.  Wonderling is contending to repeat the Championship he earned in 2011.

The only other player in the 2013 Series championship was Bruce Miller.  Was is correct.  Miller, the defending Series champion, had two sub-par finishes and now is 150 points behind Waters with only two events remaining on the schedule.

Tour points (top 10 of 54): John Waters -1365, Jeremy Wonderling - 1319, Bruce Miller - 1215, Mikey Wonderling - 1123, Ray Bliss - 1097, Brian Knowles - 1090, Mike Wonderling - 1008, Jason Knowles - 977, Jared Hill - 918, and Steve LeBarron - 901

Notes…Tracy Dunn made his first ever Tour start and recorded a great fifth place finish in the Thursday race.  He was not as fortunate in the Friday program when he was caught in a multi-car mid race crash…Steve Hartman entered the Friday program in the Hartman #9 normally driven by Cecil LaBarron.  Hartman earned a hard fought fourth place finish in his first 2013 Tour start…Jason McGregor made his first 2013 Tour start.  He may wish he hadn’t entered after getting caught in the multi-car mid race crash…Mick Seeley survived and was rewarded with sixth in the Friday race. This was Quick Mick’s best ever Tour finish…Bob Close and Mark Sundt were DNSers in the 28 cars entered in the Friday program…Steve Hartman, DJ Krug, Jason McGregor, and John Zimmerman all had work commitments on Thursday which prevented them from doubling in the Fall Classic…$100 Winters Performance Products Hard Chargers were Beamer Guzzardi (21st to 6th) and Steve Hartman (23rd to 4th)…$50 F/A Products heat race were Ray Bliss, Dave Dubois (2), John Waters, Jeremy Wonderling, and Mikey Wonderling…Tracy Dunn and Ray Bliss earned Rookie of the Race awards…Bliss has locked up the 2013 Douglas B.Miles Rookie of the Year.  Zeke earns $1000 for that award… Dave DuBois and Brad LaBarron earned Gater Racing Photo News Leader of the pack awards…Chris Zuver (MCR General Manager), John Kennedy (MCR Lease Holder), and the entire MCR Team did an incredible job with the 8th Annual MCR Fall Classic only Mother Nature did not cooperate.

ISKY Cams BRP CanAm Event Sat @ Little Valley Speedway

Little Valley, NY…The first of five events in the ISKY Cams BRP CanAm Championship Month is set for Saturday September 14 at the Little Valley Speedway (LVS) on the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds in downtown Little Valley, NY.

The ISKY Championship Month schedule has been modified to reflect the rain out at Woodhull Raceway last Saturday.  After LVS on Saturday the race teams will start a tough triple-header weekend with events at McKean County Raceway (MCR) on Thursday September 19, MCR again on Friday September 20, then off to the high banks of Woodhull Raceway on Saturday September 21.  The Championship Month will now conclude at Woodhull Raceway as part of that track’s season ending Bull Ring Challenge program on Saturday September 28.

Saturday’s Little Valley event is a four way deal for drivers competing for points.  The race will award points towards the $5000 to win BRP CanAm Series championship, award points towards the $1000 to win ISKY Cams BRP CanAm Championship Month, award Little Valley Speedway home track bonus points, and award track points towards the track’s $1000 to win 2013 LVS title.  In addition and perhaps more important is the $1000 that will go to the race winner.

Bruce Miller, John Waters, and Jeremy Wonderling are waging a great battle for the 2013 Series Championship.  Wonderling, the 2011 Series champion, leads that battle with a slim 33 point advantage over Waters.  Bruce Miller, the defending Series champion, stands third 89 points behind Wonderling.

The contest for the 2013 LVS track title has the same three players in the mix.  Wonderling currently tops that point tally also.  Miller is second with a 10 point deficit.  Waters is third 14 points behind Wonderling.

Statistically, Miller has a LVS advantage with eight Series Tour event wins dating back to the very first Tour event in 2003.  Neither Wonderling, Waters, nor even Miller is impressed with statistics.  All three have won at LVS this year.  All three are primarily interested in winning the next race whenever and wherever it is!

Join us on Saturday night at the beautiful track in the little valley.  The start time on Saturday is 6:30.
