BRP CanAm Series Woodhull History
   …New or Repeat Winner For 2013 Opener?…

St Catharines, ONT…When the 2013 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series Tour begins this Saturday (April 27) at Woodhull Raceway it will mark the 15th Series Tour event hosted at the Steuben County track.

Will the 15th event produce a new or repeat winner?

Those hoping to repeat include Jon Rivers, John Waters, Glenn Whritenour, and Jeremy Wonderling.

Jon Rivers won on the Woodhull high banks in 2006 so it has been “a while. “ The Basom, NY driver races weekly at Raceway 5 rather than Woodhull so he gives up “a bit” relative to track time, but he clearly knows his way to a checkered flag.  Rivers will debut an all brand new ProSpeed Rocket on Saturday night and plans a full assault for the 2013 BRP CanAm championship.  The best start on that season long championship assault would be a win in the 2013 Series Tour opener.

John Waters won both Series Tour events at Woodhull last year.  In fact, the Whitesville, NY driver won a total of 10 times at Woodhull last year.  Waters won the Woodhull season opener in a Series weekly event last week.  Given his record the odds makers would favor Waters on Saturday.

Glenn Whritenour won Series Tour events at his home track in 2007 and 2008.  Whritenour, from nearby Jasper has the best Woodhull late model record for race wins and track championships of any active driver.  Old records will not count on Saturday when a new record book gets authored.

Jeremy Wonderling owns three Woodhull Tour event wins.  Jeremy’s first came in 2009 and then the second generation race car driver won two of two in 2011.  The two 2011 Woodhull wins played into Wonderlings BRP CanAm Series championship that year.

The list of drivers hoping to add their name to the Woodhull Tour win list is long.  A safe assumption is that the prior winners will all qualify for Saturday night’s Tour opener.  That leaves 20 open spots for first time winners on the 24 car starting grid.

Heading this list is Bruce Miller the 2012 BRP CanAm Series champion.  Miller always runs well at Woodhull and wherever he enters his immaculate #80 race cars.  Bruce has many BRP CanAm Series weekly event wins at Woodhull, but has come up short in Tour events.  Miller’s mount for Saturday night is a completely updated GRT that has a long Miller family history.  Bruce’s brother, Andy, first campaigned this car in 2002 as a red #17.  Later Bruce’s dad, Dave, bought the car and until 2011 raced the car wearing his #40.  Last year Bruce raced this car on a few occasions when his #80 was out of commission.  Over the winter the “Family Affair GRT” was completely rebuilt at the Miller family race car shop in Hallsport.  The car has always been good now with new components and fresh Dad Power look for #80 at or near the top of the scoreboard on Saturday night.

Steve LeBarron, the 2012 Miles-Agency.com Rookie of the Year, is off to a fast 2013 start with a top five finish at Woodhull last week.  This quiet young man has improved to the point that he must be considered a contender for his first ever win.  LeBarron would be the second happiest guy in Troupsburg next week if he pulls off an upset win on Saturday night.  The happiest guy would be his father, Dale, who funds the Troups Creek Auto Parts team car #29 for Steve.

You will need a program Saturday night to sort out which Wonderling is driving what.  Mike and his three boys will all be contesting for the win. Mr. Mike will be in his #z1and Jeremy will be in his #3j.  New for 2013 is that Brady has taken the seat in the Schuyler #57j previously occupied by his brother, Mikey.  Mikey is now the owner operator of his own #18.  The boys all own BRP CanAm Tour wins.  Dad plans to add his name to the list on Saturday night.

The Knowles boys, Brian and Jason, are always racing at or near the front.  You can expect the same on Saturday.  Brian fairly believes that he was headed to Victory Lane in the 2012 opener until a late race spin in an altercation with race winner, John Waters, knocked him out of the top spot.  Nobody would feel bad if Brian parked his #7 in Victory Circle Saturday night.

Clint Button, Carl Hughes, Cecil LaBarron, and Jay McConnell are among the other Woodhull drivers that will be looking for Ted White’s winner’s trophy.

The Batavia contingent will be led to Woodhull by Dave DuBois, the 2012 Raceway 5 track champion.  Miles - Agency.com Rookie of the Year contender and former Raceway 5 sportsman champion Ray (Zeke the Streak) Bliss will also make the trip.

Black Rock Speedway will be represented by Carl Cleveland, Jared Hill, Quinn Sutherland and others as the 11th Annual BRP CanAm Series Tour begins.

Woodhull Raceway gates will open at 4:30 for a 6:30 start on Saturday April 27. Additional Woodhull Raceway information at WoodhullRaceway.com
