- Matt Farnham Takes Sportsman Feature-

RANSOMVILLE, NY… (October 16, 2017) Tim Schaffer from Aliquippa, Pennsylvania was victorious in the Big R Outlaw Shootout presented by Budweiser for the World of Outlaw Craftsman Sprint Cars at the Ransomville Speedway on Monday night. For “The Steel City Outlaw”, it was his second A-Main victory of the season on the 2017 tour for the “Greatest Show on Dirt”.  Matt Farnham from Tonawanda, NY led all 25-laps to pick up his third feature win of the season for the Investors Service Sportsman.

“The track was fast all race long and having a good starting position helped” stated race winner Shaffer.

Brad Sweet and Tim Shaffer led the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars to the green flag for their 30-lap Big R Outlaw Shootout presented by Budweiser with Shaffer in the lead. Sweet, Gravel, Stewart and Kinser top five with Schatz in sixth. Sweet would catch Shaffer while the field was in lap traffic on lap three, but Shaffer would keep the lead. Lancaster, NY native Dane Lorenc got loose entering turn two and spun his racer to bring out the first caution on lap eight, just before the leaders were about to lap him. Shaffer would take off on the restart, as David Gravel and Shane Stewart reeled in Brad Sweet to battle for second place. Sheldon Haudenschild spun in turn two to bring out the caution on lap 10 after battling with Lucas Wolfe for the 11th position. Shane Stewart would catch Gravel on the lap 11 restart, but Gravel was able to hang on to the third position.

Shaffer would continue to lead Sweet, Gravel, Stewart, and Kinser at the halfway mark, as Shaffer would lead Sweet by 1.577seconds at the cross-flags. The leader would hit heavy lap traffic with nine laps remaining, allowing Sweet to reel in Shaffer. While Shaffer was negotiating lap traffic, Sweet and Gravel would catch the leader with two laps remaining. Shaffer would lead all 30 laps to get the win. Gravel would shred a right rear tire coming to the checkered flag. Sweet finished in second followed to the line by Shane Stewart, Donny Schatz, and Gravel completing the top five. Out of the 32 World of Outlaw Craftsman Sprint Cars that took time in qualifying, 30 of them broke the previous track record set back in 1997 by Mark Kinser at a 14.360

Matt Farnham and Brett Senek brought the field of Investors Service Sportsman to the green flag for their 25-lap feature event with Farnham jumping into the lead with Senek running tight behind him. Austin Susice would battle Senek for second place in the early going, with Senek being able to hold on to the second spot. The leaders would hit lap traffic on lap nine. Andrew Smith moved into third place on lap 14, just past the halfway mark. Darrell Farraway spun, in turn, one to bring out the races first caution on lap 16. The late race restart would see Farnham continue to show the way. Jonathan Reid lost power coming off turn four and would collect Zack Sam, Derek Wagner, and Cam Tuttle to bring out the caution on lap 17. Farnham would continue to show the way up front over Senek, Susice, and Smith. James Henry would move into third place with four laps remaining. Farnham would hold off Senek to score his third win of the season.

The final event of the 2017 season is the Night of Champions Awards Banquet, set for Saturday, November 11th at the Lewiston #2 Fire Hall.
