SWEENEY RUSH LATE MODEL TOUR NY DOUBLEHEADER WITH GENESEE THURSDAY FOR TELEVISED "TRAVELING" MFG NIGHT WITH $14K IN PRODUCT GIVEAWAYS FOR ELIGIBLE RACERS FOLLOWED BY FRIDAY AT OUTLAW FOR "GARY MONTGOMERY MEMORIAL"
By Mike Leone

July 17, 2018            FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Pulaski, PA)…The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series powered by Pace Performance is set to head to the Empire State once again for a doubleheader of action this week.  Thursday night (July 19) will feature the "traveling" Manufacturers Night presented by MSD Performance in a $1,500 to-win Platinum Event at Genesee Speedway, which will be followed on Friday by the rescheduled $2,000 to-win "Gary Montgomery Memorial" Marquee Event.  Race time is set for 7 p.m. both nights.

The Genesee event will be part of the Genesee County Fair and will be a Tour event for the first time ever.  Even though this is a Platinum Event, qualifying will be held.  Speedway Showcase will produce a televised program from Thursday's event that will air on the CW Network in the Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse markets at a date in August to be announced.  This will mark the second televised Sweeney RUSH Late Model Tour event this season as the July 3 Weedsport Speedway event will be show on August 23 on MAVTV.

Last year, over $13,000 in actual product was distributed to Mid-Atlantic racers at Winchester Speedway at the inaugural "traveling" Manufacturers Night.  This year's event has been moved to New York with over $14,000 in product giveaways for eligible northern racers.  Next year's event is expected to return to the Mid-Atlantic region.

Only drivers in the top 15 in "track" points (not RUSH member points) through July 15 at Fulton, Genesee, Humberstone, and Outlaw Speedways that are competing and legal at Genesee on July 19 will be eligible for the 30 prizes.  If there are less than 30 eligible racers, some drivers will receive multiple prizes.  Of course, all legal racers are eligible to compete in the event.  Platinum Tour events allow Tour member drivers that have missed a Tour race(s) to use the events as a replace event or Tour members can use the event to throw out their worst finish.

Thus far this season at Genesee, Kyle Murray, David Pangrazio, and Jason Genco have each been victorious twice, while single wins have went to Bill Holmes and Charlie Sandercock.  Ironically, Murray and Pangrazio's wins were the first of their career as both drivers chase after the "Futures Cup" crown.  One of Genco's victories was the $2,000 Sweeney Tour Marquee event back on June 2, which was his first Series win.

Friday night at Outlaw will be the second annual "Gary Montgomery Memorial" presented by Friendly Dodge honoring a man that was synonymous with racing all over the Upstate New York State Region.  The event was originally scheduled for June 1, but was rained out.  After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Montgomery passed away in November 2016 and left behind a loving family that will be invited back to Outlaw to help present the trophy to the winner of the event.  Last year, longtime 360 Late Model competitor, Bryce Davis, claimed the victory over a stellar field of drivers including many that competed in Montgomery’s former 360 Can Am Series.  Davis went on to win the 2017 Touring Series Championship.

“Gary Montgomery was a pretty special man," stated Outlaw owner Tyler Siri.  "He had a very big presence wherever he went either as a top notch announcer, track manager, or series promoter.  He was Glenn Donnelly’s confidant at the DIRT Motorsports Organization and later went on to promote his own series, the BRP Can AM 360 Late Models.  It is a privilege for us to again honor his legacy with a night named in his behalf."

Siri is in his third year of ownership at Outlaw and subsequent third year of running the RUSH Late Models weekly.  Thus far this season at Outlaw, Chad Homan leads the way with four victories including the last three weeks.  Jason Knowles has been victorious twice, while John Waters picked up one win.

"We have to thank Genesee and Outlaw Speedways for their continuous support of RUSH," stated RUSH Director Vicki Emig.  "Genesee's Jim Johnson was very excited about hosting the second annual traveling Manufacturers Night and making it a Tour event.  And we recently received word that the event will be broadcast in the western New York area on the CW Network!  We're thankful that Tyler Siri was gracious enough to reschedule the June 1 rainout and give racers this awesome back-to-back Touring weekend.  The weather is looking great too!"

At the halfway point of the Sweeney Tour, Jeremy Wonderling continues to lead the points.  Wonderling is still in search of his first win of the season as he chases after his first career RUSH title.  Wonderling has a 13-point lead on Tour newcomer Jason Genco, while his Jeremy's brother Brady sits third in points.  Brady has been hot of late winning two of the last three events with his first career Tri-City and Expo wins as he's drawn within 18 points.  John Waters has reeled off five straight top seven finishes to move up to fourth in points.  Canadian Adam Ferri is fifth.  Completing the top 12 currently in points paying positions are Jason Knowles, Cory Lawler, J.J. Mazur, Bill Kessler, Max Blair, Beamer Guzzardi, and Darrell Bossard.

FK Rod Ends will present the $100 "Shock the Clock" Qualifying award and $25 to each winner each night.  Precise Racing Products will award a $100 gift card for the "Pedal Down" Hard Charger that passes the most cars in the feature.  The TBM Brakes “Tough Brake of the Night” will award three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid valued at approximately $45 along with a certificate for a discount off any TBM Brakes purchase.

RUSH Series Officials will also determine the new Dirt Defender "Defensive Drive" to the driver that best defended his position throughout the night, and will receive a $40 product package.  The award could go to a driver holding off another for the final heat race or B main transfer position, a driver denying a hard charging racer a feature win, a move to stay on the lead lap before a caution, or any such deserving move.
