Happy Birthday, Dutch!! The word legend deservedly fits when you won as many track titles and features as he did along with the Langhorne National Open (Race of Champions) event five times on both dirt and asphalt. Celebrate in style!

Happy birthday Dutch....

From Wiki....
"He also won the unofficial New York State Modified Championship held at the NYS Fairgrounds (Syracuse, New York) in 1967 and 1968, which were the first two years cars with overhead valve engines were allowed to compete in this race."

Can someone shed some light on the rule preventing overhead valve engines until 1967? Was this rule unique to NYS Fairgrounds? When were overhead valve engines widely accepted? etc?

My understanding is that at the time they tried to have the same rules that were used at Waterloo - 280 or 300 cubic inch limit.  Why that was done I am not sure.

Happy Birthday Dutch!! My father started taking me racing when I was 5 years old in the 70"s and you were my favorite driver! I always went to the pits to see you and your car. What a great era of racing! I hope that you have many more wonderful years ahead.

How about Dutch's second-place finish in the 1969 Permatex 300 at Daytona! I remember seeing Dutch's car from the Permatex race on display at Fulton Raceway later that Spring.

Unfortunately that race is also remembered for other reasons.

Well never fails, I'm always a day late & a dollar short. Happy Birthday Dutch! One of your cars was my dad's  street car. (Red Barkley)  you bought it down by Roseland Park from Glenn Dean. Thats how our family got into racing, to watch you race the family car.  At the age of 6 yrs old dad started taking me to the races. By this time you were in the blue & gold #7 coupe. And we did follow you around from track to track. It didnt take long for you to become my hero, and to this day you still are, and always will be. (Thanks dad for takin' me to the races.) Thanks for doing what you did so well Dutch, Race! Happy Birthday! Bob B.
