MEDIA RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 6-18-16 HOLLAND INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

TIM WELSHANS, ZACH MYERS SPLIT HOLLAND CHARGER VICTORIES

HOLLAND, New York (June 18, 2016) – Tim Welshans from West Falls, NY and Zach Myers from East Concord, NY picked up the checkered flags in the twin feature events for the Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency NASCAR Pro Chargers on WNY Sportsman Night at Holland International Speedway. Bob Bogner from Blasdell, NY got credited with the victory in the Bank of Holland Hornets.  Darryl Phillips from Angola, NY picked up the win in the Rookie 4’s. James Steins from South Wales, NY picked up the win in the M&M U Pull-It Figure 8 car feature event.

Chris Handley and Jerry Kosmowski shared the front row for the first 25 lap feature for the Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency NASCAR Pro Chargers with Kosmowski jumping into the lead. Tim Welshans took over second with Rich Carnes, Zach Myers and Tom Northem in the top five. Tim Welshans took over the lead on lap six. At the halfway point, Welshans continued to show the way over Kosmowski with Rich Carnes, Tom Northem, Zach Myers and Eric Brown racing in the top six. Rich Carnes hit the front stretch wall with ten laps remaining, causing the caution. His right rear tire fell off the car with the tire landing on the back straightaway.  On the restart, it was Tim Welshans and Tommy Northem working into second. Eric Brown and Zach Myers battled for third place for several laps. Welshans was able to hold off Zach Myers and Tom Northem to pick up the victory, his first since winning the track title 10 seasons ago. Northem and Brown would fail post race inspection after the first feature.
In the nightcap, Josh Hathaway and Nik Welshans brought the field to the green flag with Welshans taking the lead. Kosmowski moved into second. Hathaway regained second on lap eight. Zach Myers moved into second on lap nine. The competitive Charger division went side by side for several circuits including a great battle between Dave Vona, Eric Brown, Tim and Ted Welshans. Eric Brown spun in turn one after contact with Tom Northem to bring out the caution on lap 13. On the restart, Myers would take over the lead. Max Northem spun on the front straightaway to bring out the caution with six laps remaining. Rich Carnes was able to continue on racing after being involved in the caution. Zach Myers led off the lap 19 restart, with Nik Welshans, Dave Vona, Ted and Tim Welshans in tow. Myers would hold off Nik Welshans, Dave Vona, Ted Welshans and Tim Welshans to pick up the victory. A very emotional win for Myers as he was racing with a heavy heart after losing his grandmother and friend and past Holland Late Model competitor Jim West who passed away earlier in the week.
Bob Bogner and Butcher Palmer ran in the top two at the start of the Bank of Holland Hornet feature event. Dan Sharf spun in turn four and Nikki Maltby got collected to bring out the races first caution on lap two. John Blinston also took his racer to the pits during the caution period. On the restart, Josh Hill went four wide to move into third place and then went after Butcher Palmer to take over second. Jamie Woods moved into third place as Bob Bogner started to increase his lead over the field. Jamie Woods passed Hill on lap eight to take over second place. Jamie Woods took over the lead on lap nine as Jeff Szafraniec took over second. Tyler Pastorious spun in turn four to bring out the caution on lap 12. Bogner and Hill battled for second during the mid-point of the race as Woods started to pull away. Woods would pull away from the field to what would appear to be his first career win at Holland, however, failed post-race inspection, giving the win to veteran racer Bob Bogner. Bogner was followed to the line by Josh Hill, Jeff Szafraniec, George Anthony and Ryan Palmer.
Carl Vilardo took the lead off the opening take off lap in the Advance Auto Parts INEX Legends main event. Brandon DeBrakeleer took over the lead on lap seven. Once out front, DeBrakeleer along with fellow front row starter Carl Vilardo and Bryce Norton took off and opened the lead over the rest of the field. DeBrakeleer was able to hold off Vilardo and Bryce Norton to pick up the win, his second win of the season at Holland Speedway.
Brian Erler and Scott Chaplin brought the field to the green flag for the Rookie 4 feature event with Erler jumping out into the lead. Darryl Phillips took the lead away on lap two and took off with a ten car length advantage over the field. Anton Anderson III worked his way into second and quickly caught race leader Phillips by the halfway point. Anderson had motor issues when the white flag came out. Darryl Phillips was able to pull away to pick up the win.
Jim Steins and Sharon Hughes ran in the top two for much of the M&M U Pull-It Figure 8 feature event. Steins would be able pull away from Hughes to score the win with Don Haskell coming home in third. For Steins, it was his first win in 8 years.
