I'm writing this post to express my opinion of what I feel should be done with the charger class, to start a constructive conversation that could potentially lead to something positive.
I do not want this to turn into a big bashing thread that goes off on some BS tangent!
I was at the track quite a bit this year And spoke with a lot drivers and debated with them on what if anything needed to change with the division.
One thing people need to remember is the chargers have not only survived the past few years but they have thrived. Wile other tracks that run super stocks strugle to even reach double digets in car count the chargers have almost averaged 20 cars per week for the past decade +.
They are not super stocks! So I get annoyed when I hear people say how they should run HP and 500 cfm carbs with locked rears on 8 inch wheels. ONCE AGAIN THEY ARE NOT SUPER STOCKS!
There is an old saying if it ain't broke don't fix it.
The class doesn't need any major changes, but it Could use a few tweaks.
#1- change the minimum weight from 3,400 lbs. With a maximum left side weight of 52% to a minimum 3,200 lbs. With a maximum of 54% left side weight. Most people are putting I. Excess of 400 lbs. Of ballast in their cars to meet weight. That's a lot of weight to be hanging on the car and led is not easy or cheap to get anymore since the use of led wheel weights was outlawed a few years ago and the scrap value has gone up.
#2- no weight brake for the crate motors or even crate motors in General. They have plenty of power and seriously if your not going to open them up for tech why run them? You tell a racer to "buy this motor and we won't open it up"!? SERIOUSLY?
What do you think the first thing people are going to do? Find where you can get the seal bolts and open them up..... A 602 is approximately $3600 new so why are used ones being sold for over $7000?
#3- go to 8" wheels be leave the open differential. I don't like the idea of 8" wheels but this is an availability issue 7" wheels aren't common at all.
I'd like to hear others opinions and Mr. Bennet I would be happy to discuss this with you I know your read these
