Waters and Wonderling Record BRP CanAm Tour Wins
…Waters In Penn Can Inaugural - Wonderling In Return To Woodhull …

St Catharines, ONT…John Waters and Jeremy Wonderling each recorded Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series Tour wins on the first weekend of the summer.  Waters won at Penn Can on Friday June 21 and Wonderling on Saturday June 22 at Woodhull.

Penn Can Speedway hosted an American Racer Big East program for the BRP CanAm Series Tour.  What a night!  People everywhere, about 100 race cars,  and a line-up of 85 bicycles that were given away on Kid’s Night at the scenic track along the shores of the Susquehanna River in Susquehanna, PA.

The over-flow Penn Can crowd was treated to their first ever BRP CanAm event and the first late model event at the track in several years.  They got their money’s worth with a great run dominated by John Waters with Jeremy Wonderling in hot pursuit for the entire 25 lap distance.

Later Wonderling shared, “I waited too long for John (Waters) to make a mistake and open up the bottom.  I went to the top with five laps to go and I think I could have made it work up there, but in the final two laps lapped cars caused me to back off a little.  I hoped that they would go to the bottom and slow down Johnny and I would have been able to blast by on the cushion.  It did not work out that way.  I will take second and beat him tomorrow at Woodhull.”

In his victory lane interview with Tyler Harpell, Waters said, “I knew Jeremy was back there.  I could hear him and I saw that yellow nose a couple of times.  I was really concerned about the lapped cars as we came to the checkers.  They did everything right by staying in the lanes they were using and they were fast enough that we caught them with only a lap to go.  I stayed on the bottom and just cleared Jay (McConnell).  It worked out perfect.  I love this track.  I hope that we can come back next year.”

Ray Bliss, Jason Knowles, and Mikey Wonderling completed the top five finishers.

Saturday night the BRP CanAm faithful ventured to very familiar grounds at Ted White’s Woodhull Raceway.  The top two reversed their order in a barn-burner that had the undivided attention of the near capacity crowd.  Jeremy Wonderling, the 2011 BRP CanAm Champion, took the top spot from Clint Button on lap five and charged to his first Series Tour event win of the year.  “Wins are never easy here or anyplace.  I knew Johnny (Waters) was back there and I knew that he would try to snooker me to give up the top where it was faster tonight.  He peeked on the inside, but that wasn’t going to work.  My car got a little wide after that last caution and I finally beat him.  We are great friends, but I will not give up a win for him, or anybody, if I can help it.  It was a great night with the heat race win, the Bull Ring Challenge win, and now this Tour win,” reported Mr. Excitement in his Victory Lane interview.

Finishing behind Wonderling and Waters was Glenn Whritenour.  Whritenour was behind them, but not by much.  In fact, Whritenour even inched ahead of Waters a couple of times in the final five laps.

Behind the “Three Ws” (Wonderling, Waters, and Whritenour) at Scott Colegrove’s flying double checkers were Ray Bliss and Fred Amann to complete the top five.

Too much to share from an outstanding race weekend, but in addition to the winners and how they made it happen a couple highlights and lowlights.  Perhaps topping the highlights was Ray Bliss (AKA Zeke the Streak) finishing in the top five on both nights.  Bliss is a contender in the $1000 Miles-Agency.com Rookie of the Year contest.  On the other side of the ledger; Carl Cleveland, Bruce Miller, and Quinn Sutherland all suffered major damage to their cars.  Cleveland and Sutherland at Penn Can.  Miller, the defending Series Champion, may have destroyed his Black Beauty at Woodhull.  Preliminary pitside damage report was that the damage was so extensive that Miller will be forced to bring out the 2012 championship car for the remaining events.

F/A Products Engine Builder heat race winners for the weekend were Jeremy Wonderling at both Penn Can and Woodhull, Jason Knowles (Penn Can), Fred Amann and Bruce Miller (Woodhull).  They each earned $50 engine builder certificates.

Winters Performance Products Hard Chargers were Mikey Wonderling at Penn Can and Jared Hill at Woodhull.  They each earned $100 from Winters.

Gater Racing News Leader of the Pack Award winners were Brady Wonderling at Penn Can and Frank LeBarron at Woodhull.

Penn Can - Woodhull Double Next For BRP CanAm
   …PA - NY Border Battle…

St Catharines, ONT…The Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series Tour has a double-header weekend set for June 21 and June 22.  On Friday the Tour will make its first ever visit to Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, PA.  On Saturday the Tour makes its second stop of the year at Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, NY.

John Waters, current Tour point leader shares, “The reports out of Penn Can (Speedway) are great.  I am excited to go there and try something different.  I have talked to a few guys who went last week to watch the (ROC) modified race where they had about 70 modifieds (actually 67).  Anyplace that attracts all the heavy hitters in that class is fine with me.  I will be coming in from Vermont where I am working.  I will meet the team and car there.

“As for Woodhull, I am here every week.  I am here, but not winning in Series weekly events.  I hope that I can change that in the Tour event.  We need these races, the weather is just killing us.  I am planning on sunshine and two wins when we get back at it.”

Waters is correct, the weather is “killing us.” Rain or the threat of rain has forced cancellation of four of the six BRP Tour events scheduled through mid June.  The most recent cancellation was the Father’s Day Sunday Special planned at Black Rock Speedway.

Bruce Miller, the defending Series champion, is very ready to get back to racing.  The Black Rock cancellation was a major disappointment for Miller since he has a win and an almost win at that track after three starts there.  Miller’s Black Beauty #80 will be ready for the trip to Susquehanna, PA on Friday afternoon.

The two completed Tour events have produced some great racing and more is on tap with the Penn Can - Woodhull Double this weekend.  To date 36 drivers have entered with another 20 or so that have stayed close to home for Series weekly events.

BRP CanAm Series Tour top 15 as of June 23: John Waters - 200, Glenn Whritenour - 180, Jeremy Wonderling - 180, Bruce Miller - 163, Mike Wonderling - 145, Brady Wonderling - 144, Brian Knowles - 142, Steve LeBarron - 134, Jason Knowles - 127, Jay McConnell - 122, Mikey Wonderling - 117, Cecil LaBarron - 106, Ray Bliss - 97, Jared Hill - 84, Quinn Sutherland - 84

Notes:  In Series weekly event action last weekend Glenn Whritenour nipped John Waters at the line to win his fourth of eight at Woodhull…Mikey Wonderling won his first ever at Raceway 5 in a great battle with defending track champion Dave DuBois…Dale LeBarron is looking for a driver for his #19 BRP car at Penn Can since the son Frank must skip the race to tend to business at Troups Creek Auto Parts…Quinn Sutherland had his Miles-Agency.com Lazer on display at the Penn Yan Cruisin’ Night car show last week.  It got more attention than any of the 200+ cars on display…After the PA - NY Border Battle the Tour is off to Little Valley on July 4

Black Rock Speedway Next For BRP CanAm Series Tour
   …Rare Sunday Date…

St Catharines, ONT…The Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series Tour will be headed to Black Rock Speedway on Sunday June 16 for event number three of 2013 Tour.

Black Rock owner / promoter, Dean Hoag, comes up with many different programs for the Yates County race track.  This time it is a rare Sunday date.

Hoag shares, “There is a very popular Cruisin’ Night car show and parade of cars in Penn Yan on Friday night (June 14).  That is an annual event that typically attracts many of our race fans.  They block off the main street and typically attract over 200 classic and antique cars for a gala affair.  Rather than run our program against Cruisin’ Night and share fans we decided to take advantage of the Sunday Father’s Day date.  We will take Friday night off and have a display at Cruisin’ Night. Hopefully, a lot of families will help dad celebrate with an afternoon at Black Rock Speedway. They can go to the car show on Friday and the car races on Sunday.  The way I see it everybody wins.”

The Friday night Penn Yan car show is sponsored by the Yates County Chamber of Commerce.  In recognition of the partnership on the dates they will also be the title partner of the BRP CanAm Tour event.

John Waters, the 2012 Black Rock late model champion, will lead the Tour to Dundee.  Waters is two for two on the Tour, but struggling in Series weekly event competition.

Waters won the Tour opener at Woodhull in April and Tour event #2 at Little Valley last month.  On the flip side he has two DNFs and a runner-up finish in the three weekly events at Black Rock so far.

It is too early to be thinking seriously of points, but the $5000 carrot out there for the 2013 BRP CanAm champion is on the minds of some.  Currently John Waters leads with 200 over a tie for second between Glenn Whritenour and Jeremy Wonderling 20 points back.  Bruce Miller, the defending Series Champion, stand fourth with 163 points.

In Douglas B. Miles Insurance (MilesAgency.com) Rookie of the Year competition Jay McConnell leads Ray Bliss 122 Vs 97.  There is a lot of racing between now and when the $1000 check will be presented after the ISKY Cams Championship event on September 21.

Penn Yan’s Main Street will be closed at 4:00 on Friday with registration at 5:00 when the cars fill the street.

Black Rock Speedway race time on Sunday is 3:00 more information at BlackRockSpeedway.com

BRP CanAm Series Tour Returns To Little Valley Friday
   …Waters Perfect So Far…

Little Valley, NY…The Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series returns to the Little Valley Speedway on Friday June 7. The event will be the third of the 19 events scheduled for the 2013 Tour.

19 events were scheduled, but two have been lost to rain and the event scheduled at Bradford Speedway has been cancelled.  19 has quickly become 16!

John Waters is perfect (two for two) so far with victories in the Tour opener at Woodhull and at Little Valley last month. In Series weekly event competition it has been a different story. He is winless after three events at Black Rock and one for five at Woodhull.

At Black Rock Jason Knowles has recorded back to back wins after Bruce Miller won the opener.  At Woodhull Raceway the man to beat is Glenn Whritenour. Jeremy Wonderling and Waters have each been to victory circle once while Whritenour has won three in a row.

Whritenour and Wonderling were both major players at Little Valley last month and plan to stop the Waters win flow on Friday.  Whritenour, the guy in the white #15 that many did not know, dominated last month’s Little Valley event, but fell short by two laps. Whritenour plans add his name to the list of 14 drivers that have recorded victories in the 25 BRP CanAm Tour events that have been contested on the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds half-mile.

Jeremy Wonderling had the fastest car at Little Valley last month.  Fastest but he started 26th and advanced to third when time ran out.  Mr. Excitement lived up to that moniker and won the $100 Winters Performance Products Hard Charger Award. Wonderling owns a single Tour win at Little Valley and would dearly love another.

Bruce Miller tops the list of Tour winners at Little Valley.  After 25 Series Tour events at that track he owns 7 first place trophies.  Miller has been tinkering and tweaking with all the variables to make his race car better.  This guy is a degreed engineer who will sort it out sooner or later.  He is hoping to have it all worked out on Friday night.

Bruce Miller, John Waters, Jeremy Wonderling, and Glenn Whritenour will have to contend with the Bob Close (5th in the opener), the Knowles boys (Brian 9th and Jason 10th in the opener), and the other three Wonderlings.  Big Mike was 4th, Mikey 6th and Brady 7th in the opener.  Last month 27 drivers entered; a similar number is expected on Friday.

Little Valley Speedway gates will open at 4:00 with the first green flag at 7:00.  The five star program will include the BRP CanAm Tour for 360 late models, super late models, crate late models, street stocks, and E-Mods.  More information at LittleValleySpeedway.com

Waters Two For Two On BRP CanAm Series Tour
   …Mother Nature Also Wins Another…

Keuka Park, NY…John Waters and Mother Nature were winners of the Memorial Day double-header for the Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series Tour. Rain on Friday forced the cancellation of the event planned for Woodhull Raceway. Waters won the Sunday event at Little Valley Speedway (LVS).

The score is now two for John Waters and two for Mother Nature.  Waters won the Tour opener at Woodhull in April.  Mother Nature won at Five Mile Point Speedway on May 11 and again on May 24 at Woodhull.  Waters beat Mother Nature and 26 other competitors in a wild affair under a clear sky with a full moon at LVS on Sunday.

It may have been the full moon or perhaps just bad luck, but five caution periods and a long red flag pause marred the A-Main and forced LVS management to reduce the contest to 15 laps rather than the planned 20 laps.

The cautions were for minor incidents, but track cleanup was slow.  The red flag was the result of Buck Payne getting upside down.  Payne was not injured, but his car required a rollback and another slow cleanup.

Payne’s crash could have been a lot worse. On lap seven after a restart as a pack of cars exited turn two they proved again that four wide generally does not work and five never does.  Payne got tagged in that mess. Had everyone been a tad more patient there would have been no issue.  Somehow as Payne’s car shot across the track and into the retaining wall no other cars were collected.  That and that fact that Payne was not injured were the good news.

Glenn Whritenour and Jon Rivers paced the 27 cars to the initial start.  Whritenour won the race into turn one and held off a determined Rivers until the first caution.  That caution was for Rivers.

After the race Rivers shared, “It was my fault. I adjusted the brakes too far and it bit me.  I learned two things.  First, that this new Rocket is a good fast race car capable of winning.  Second, I need to learn how to better adjust the brake balance (front to rear).”  Rivers continued, but from the rear and was able to muster a 13th place finish.

Whritenour continued to lead under green and yellow until lap 13. On a restart Waters who had come from 12th at the start to second on lap 12 found an opening under Whritenour as the two raced through turns one and two.  Regarding the pass for the lead, Waters observed, “On that restart, I knew there was a good chance. I really didn’t want him (Whritenour) getting his momentum at the start. I saw him leaving the bottom open a little bit, so I knew I had to hug right up on his quarter panel, and make my move in the first corner and luckily it got in there and the car stuck. I think we lost our front brakes, so it was a little difficult getting going, and I couldn’t go in as hard as I wanted to, but it definitely worked out for me tonight.”

Whritenour held on to finish second.  After the race while awaiting the technical inspection of his Joe Willcox Automatics sponsored CRS Impala Whritenour was more concerned about the welfare of his good friend Julius Cerrillo who was seriously injured in a highway accident than the race results.  A phone check to the hospital where Cerrillo is a patient revealed that the situation was improving and the outlook was good.

Jeremy Wonderling was one who would have liked the full distance.  Wonderling had charged through the field from 25th to fourth at the final caution.  On the restart he passed Mike Wonderling, his father, for third and was after Whritenour and Waters when time ran out.

Mike Wonderling was happy with his fourth place finish given all that had gone wrong earlier in the program.  Mr. Mike’s driveshaft broke in hot laps.  His air cleaner flew off on the last lap of his heat race. Mr. Mike ran second to Whritenour laps five through 12 when Waters got by and then third went Jeremy got by a lap later.

Bob Close had his best run ever in Ron Scharf’s beautiful #65.  Close was fifth at the checkers.  He had no time to celebrate as he quickly moved to his super late for that A-Main.  He then had time to celebrate not only his BRP CanAm finish, but more important his win in the hotly contested super late main event.

F/A Products heat race winners were Brian Knowles, John Waters and Glenn Whritenour

The $100 Winters Performance Products Hard Charger was Jeremy Wonderling who started 25th and charged to third at John Powell’s flying double checkers.

The Douglas B. Miles Insurance Rookie of the Race was Jay McConnell.  Jay started 15th stayed out of trouble (no easy task) and brought his #112 home eighth in his first ever race at LVS..

The Gater Racing Photo News Leader of the Pack Award winner was Jared Hill.  Hill drew the #1 pill for heat race lineups.  Unfortunately that was the last of his good luck.  The handsome young racer was caught up in several incidents during the A-Main and finished 23rd.

The Die Cast Speed Shop long distance award went to Kevin Olinger.  Olinger came from his home in Smithfield, Virginia to enter the event.  His absolutely beautiful race car #24k is garaged in Bradford, PA.

The next BRP CanAm Tour event is a return to Little Valley Speedway on Friday June 7.  In the interim there will be Series weekly event racing at Black Rock on Friday May 31 and Saturday June 1 at Raceway 5 and Woodhull Raceway.

BRP CanAm Racers Busy On Memorial Day Weekend
…Two Tour Events and Two Weekly Events Are Scheduled…

Keuka Park, NY…The 2013 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series shifts into overdrive on Memorial Day Weekend with four events over a three day period.  Two Series tour events and two Series weekly events will provide a busy race weekend.

Racing starts on Friday May 24 at Woodhull Raceway when Ted White and his team host BRP CanAm Tour event number two.  On Saturday night the race teams have their choice of Series weekly events at Woodhull or Raceway 5.  Sunday everybody heads to Little Valley Speedway for BRP CanAm Series Tour event number three.

Ted White, Woodhull Raceway owner, has scheduled the BRP CanAm Series tour event on Friday given that Black Rock Speedway is not racing.  To add to the Friday night excitement White has added the ULMS super late model reunion to the program. White’s team will turn around to host a full weekly program on Saturday.

Woodhull Raceway hosted the 2013 Series tour opener on April 27.  John Waters, the defending Woodhull track champion, won that event with Bruce Miller and Jeremy Wonderling second and third respectively. Miller is the defending Series champion.  Wonderling was the 2011 Series champion.

John Charlesworth and the Cattaraugus County Agricultural Society, owners and operators of Little Valley Speedway, open their gates for the first time in 2013 on Sunday.  Their program features BRP CanAm Series tour event number three for the year and number 129 since the Series started in 2003.  The Little Valley race card will include super late models, E-Mods, street stocks, and crate lates.

BRP CanAm Series weekly event winners on May 17 and May 18 were, Jason Knowles at Black Rock, Dave DuBois at Raceway 5, and Glenn Whritenour at Woodhull.  The wins were the first of 2013 for each of these drivers.

BRP CanAm Series Weekly Programs In High Gear
…Four Events and Four Winners To Date…

St Catharines, ONT…The 2013 Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series weekly programs shift into high gear this weekend (Friday and Saturday May 17& 18) with racing at Black Rock, Raceway 5, and Woodhull Raceway.  This marks the first weekend of the year that all three member tracks will host the BRP late models in their programs. It wasn’t planned this way, but Mother Nature intervened and caused some cancellations.

Four Series weekly events and one Series Tour event have been completed to date.  .

In weekly event action John Waters and Jeremy Wonderling have scored wins at Woodhull Raceway. Bruce Miller won the Black Rock opener, and JJ Mazur won the Raceway 5 opener.

Waters also won the Series Tour opener at Woodhull last month.  The Tour event scheduled at Five Point Speedway was rained out and can not be rescheduled.

Next on the BRP CanAm Tour event schedule is the Memorial Day weekend double header.  Woodhull Raceway is going with a Friday night date since Black Rock is off on May 24 and Little Valley Speedway will open for the 2013 season on Sunday May 26.

Ted White at Woodhull Raceway has scheduled the annual ULMS super late model reunion as part of the Friday May 24 special.  The supers, a BRP Tour event, crate sportsman, and FWD minis kick off the holiday racing weekend for the folks in and around Steuben County.

John Charlesworth at Little Valley Speedway has the traditional menu of super lates, a BRP CanAm Tour, E-Mods, crate lates, and street stocks set for his 2013 opener.  Little Valley has six race events on their 2013 schedule and all six dates include BRP CanAm Tour events.

We are in high gear and hope that all of our race fans are ready.  Mother Nature is done racing for the 2013 racing season and we are set for another great year of racing.

BRP CanAm Late Models Headed To Five Mile Point
…Big East Tour For AR Cup Begins Saturday

Kirkwood, NY…The Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Series Tour heads to Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, NY this Saturday (May 11).

Saturday’s event marks the first ever BRP CanAm late model event at the Harpell family’s historic speedway.

The event will also be the first of the three event Big East Tour for the American Racer Cup for late models. The Big East Tour begins at Five Mile Point Speedway on Saturday.  Event number two is set for Friday June 21 at Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, PA.  I-88 Speedway in Afton, NY will host the third and final event of the Big East Tour on Wednesday July 24.

Fred Woodward, President of Lias Tire, recently announced that to help the BRP CanAm race teams with the travel expenses of the Big East Tour that Lias Tire will provide an American Racer tire to the top ten drivers for that three race AR Cup mini-series.

The 2013 Tour opened at Woodhull two weeks ago where John (Hot) Waters defeated Bruce (Thriller) Miller with Jeremy (Mr. Excitement) Wonderling completing the podium finishers.  No surprises there since Waters won seven BRP Tour events last year and finished second to Miller for the 2012 Series championship. Wonderling, the 2011 Series champion, finished third in the standings last year.  Further, each of those drivers have scored Series weekly event wins in the early season.  Waters and Wonderling have Woodhull weekly wins.  Bruce Miller won the season opener at Black Rock last week.

Others from the Woodhull top ten that are delighted for the opportunity to visit a new Victory Lane are Glenn Whritenour, Brian Knowles, Steve LeBarron, Brady Wonderling, Jay McConnell, Clint Button, and Jason Knowles.

Series history will be made on Saturday night since the event will be on new turf.  With one exception none of the others expected on Saturday night have ever raced at FMP and few have ever even seen the track.  The exception, Ray (Zeke the Streak) Bliss, a BRP CanAm Rookie has raced his modified at the Point a few times in prior years.

Make a point to be at the Point where history will be made. Racing action begins at 6:00 on Saturday.  Information at www.FiveMilePointSpeedway.net or 607-775-5555
