The Hill Speedway in Monroeton, PA will be hosting the $1,069 Billy Maynard Memorial on July 2 for IMCA Modifieds.  I will be in attendance to honor the gentleman.

if I remember right, one of the best races ever! Preece and Hirschman both starting deep in the pack.

Agreed.  One of the best modified races I've ever seen.  Just two of the best going at it in a fair fight to the finish.  The heat race was pretty good too.

Let's be clear: Small Block Supers are not supermodifieds.  Never have been.  The name is marketing hype.  That's all.  They are a weekly class unique to Oswego.  On the other hand, from a fans' perspective, 350 Supermodifieds are supermodifeds but with smaller engines (and a few other differences).

350 Supers are more affordable and a class where an older supermodified chassis can be utilized.  Sort of similar to the relationship between Tour Modifieds and Sportsman/SK Modifieds.  On dirt, you have nearly the equivalent with Big Blocks, 358's, and Sportsman.

I would concur.  Although the exact details are unknown, reasonable speculation is that the family wanted the event at Lancaster to be RoC sanctioned.  No RoC sanction means no event at Lancaster.  I understand and I support the family's decision.

Racing Discussion / 2021 Race of Champions Schedule
« on: January 07, 2021, 04:26:25 PM »
Would it be asking too much to see the 2021 Race of Champions Modified schedule?  I know it's only January (!), but most race tracks and sanctioning organizations have already released their schedules.  Why hasn't the RoC schedule been released yet?

Racing Discussion / Re: Bethel Motor Speedway - What a joke!

My friend and I went to the track for NovemberFest. Brought the dog and left her in the truck. Went to go let her out and went through the gate and was told no re-entry in a very disrespectful manner by the gate attendent. He told us that he didn't tell us to bring our dog so it's not his problem. Went and spoke to the GM who cleared us to go in and out of the gate to let the dog out and then as we went to do so the guy rudely told us here is your money back and to do the place a favor and go home. Most unprofessional run speedway and most disrespectful staff I have ever come in contact with at a race track.

Hmm.  Sure seems like the pot is calling the kettle black given your reported actions as a race promoter.

Maybe, just maybe, the Race of Champions is undergoing a renaissance - returning to the pinnacle of modified racing racing that it used to be.  Wouldn't that be something!

Racing Discussion / Re: NASCAR Changes

Putting dirt on Bristol for a points race is a joke. The racing will suck (remember first
few Eldora truck races?) They are just now getting decent racing. These cars aren't built for that. And why not go to a dirt track? I don't get the fascination with putting dirt on asphalt. The racing isn't the same. Track conditions are never good. Always chunking up or rubber laid down on 1 groove making train racing. Glad they're taking away some of the boring cookie cutter tracks. I like the new road courses. And I'm especially excited about the Nashville race. I live 10 minutes from the track.

What dirt tracks would you suggest NASCAR utilize?  I'm having a hard time thinking of an existing facility that could seat at least 50,000 people (if not more).

Being part of a crew that has won that event for 6 straight years is also something that doesn't happen very often. And..it doesn't get old.

From the stands, it looks like that jack gets a little bit heavier each year!!  Congrats to you and the entire team that overcame significant adversity to win once again.

Which track are you talking about?  I've never heard of Shag 2 or Zhang 2.  Is is possible you confused RaceNY with RaceChina or RaceTaiwan?  Just guessing.

Racing Discussion / Re: Evergreen Raceway Park

It's a shame that Evergreen couldn't run their four class show in less than SEVEN hours!  Can you believe it?  Seven f'ing hours!  I truly like going to Evergreen and watching modifieds compete but I will not subject myself to such a poorly run (I'm being polite) facility.

Evergreen Raceway (PA) has a $6,500 to win tour-type modified race this Sunday and I will not (repeat: not) be in attendance. I can not and will not frequent a race track that can't produce a proper show. By way of example, I was at Thunder Road (VT) last Thursday. With four classes plus spectator 1-on-1 races, the entire show lasted 3 hours and 15 minutes.

They started on time. Intermission was short (less than 15 minutes). Cars were lined up for each heat, consi, and feature before they took to the racing surface. Cars that spun didn't sit awaiting the yellow flag. They rejoined the race!  All in all, an excellent example of how a racing show should be run.

I can only hope that Evergreen Raceway management will make significant improvements as they have become the "poster child" for how not to run a race track. If they do, I'll return for the remaining tour-type modified events.

"The move eliminates conflict from another Series which scheduled directly against the 70th Annual Race of Champions 250 that was previously scheduled for Saturday, September 26."

Can someone tell me what the Saturday conflict is/was?
