School Bus/Race Car Haulers
« on: October 29, 2009, 11:32:55 PM »
I think buses that are turned into race car haulers are awesome.

I remember in the 90's someone from DTRP had one for a sportsman.

Anyone have pics of any

How much work/money is involved in doing it?

Both Bill and Joe Torrisi used the converted school bus as a race hauler.

Basil Shutt (Curt Vanpelt's car owner)had one in the early 90's at Woodhull, As did Tim Thortons team. Vanpelt also traveled some of the DIRT series small block races with it .Also Adam Ferri's (DIRT small block, late model)team from Canada uses a short bus to carry crew and pull the trailer, Just don't get stuck behind it leaving the track I think it tops out at about 45-50 fully loaded. LOL

The first bus/hauler I ever saw was Ron Zarpentine's. As a kid in the '60's,I thought it was pretty cool.

We had one and really liked it because , we where involved in a accident with it and it saved our lives because it was so well built for safety that we didn't get hurt . It was small bus we had a couch in there, shelves and bus seats for pass. We now haul with a ambulance and it is just not the same . Would rather have the old bus back .

Mike Rizzo used to haul his Super Mod in a converted bus years ago.

As I recall the bus had a wood stove in it. (lol)

Don McGinnis had one that he used to haul his #20 to Ransomville and Canandaigua that was really cool.  It had an observation deck on the roof to watch the races from, which was rare at the time and nice to have, except of course when his son Jeff (races 358's now) fell off it and broke his arm, at least that's what I remember.  Jim Ruston had one, too, that made a few trips to my Dad's shop when Dad built cars for him.
