Racing Discussion / Vintage Modifieds in the Southern Tier
« on: August 09, 2017, 10:26:48 PM »
I'm putting feelers out to find out how many folks out there have a vintage stockcar. This would pertain to people in the Southern Tier of NY and the Northern Tier of PA. The reason I'm asking is to gauge if there would be enough interest to start up a new club in the area. It's been a few years since the last club took a dive. Honestly, not sure what happened to them, but it seems like there is a hole to fill.  So, in the hopes of starting a dialog, I'd also love to hear thoughts on this. If you know someone that may be interested, please share this with them. Thanks...Bob J.

Racing Discussion / Danny Ody passes on...
« on: January 05, 2014, 10:56:19 PM »
I got the news today that my cousin, Danny Ody, has passed away. I was in a state of denial but my mother called Dannys mom tonight to confirm this. I've none this guy my entire life and he is one of the finest people I have ever none. I thought I would share this photo Danny posted here on RaceNY a few years ago. In Danny's words- "This is me at Fulton Speedway final season race awarding the trophy to Lee Osborne 1969- I was 9 years old"  He had over 100 career victories and raced everything form 4cyl. mods to mini sprints to big block modifieds.  They say that your deeds are what you are remebered for. He has left a lasting legacy both on and off the track.  Anyone who knows him knows that what he had in spades was a big heart!  Race On Danny O'

Racing Discussion / Indianapolis 500 stuff....
« on: May 22, 2013, 03:51:56 PM »
So Indy's coming up quick. I have been saving a few pictures I found on the interweb. But first...If you have Time-Warner cable and get on-demand: if you go to "Sports and Fitness on demand" and scroll to ESPN then go to "Indianapolis 500" then go to 1969 you will be in for a treat...that's all I'm saying.
Next...Ford Easton forwarded me this link...check it out if you like pace cars (and even if you don't). I was just surprised that Indianapolis wasn't talked into using the Pontiac Aztec as a pace car, once again, all I"m saying.

Finally, a couple of great promo pictures from the greatest racing spectacle on earth. If you've never been to one it's something every racing junkie should do once in their lifetime!

This Saturday, August 18th, will mark the running of the first Alan Taylor Memorial for Crate-Modifieds. This 10-lap shoot-out will feature WOODHULL drivers who have NEVER won in a modified. For anyone who doesn't know;  Mr. Taylor was a fixture at Woodhull who had put together a race like this a few years ago. Tragically, he passed away earlier this year.
Ted White has stepped up big and thrown in some money so that 1st, 2nd and 3rd will receive a pay-out. The winner will also walk away with a handsome trophy generously donated by S&W Awards and Photos. They will also receive a money saving gift certificate from Quickskinz Performance Racing Bodies.
Several of their fellow drivers have also stepped up with A.J. Potrzebowski putting up $25 for a hard charger award and Daugherty's Auto Sales and Service kicking in $25 for a hard luck award. Chris Daugherty has also pledged $100 on top of the winnings if a driver goes from last place on the starting grid to the front for the win.
Several drivers who are eligible for this were not in attendance this past week. If anyone reading this can put me in touch with Frank Kline, Doug Kline, Chris Brockway, Bill Walters and Paul Jenkins it would be greatly appreciated. My phone number is (607)- 739-2789.   Thank-you              Bob Johnson
