Ronald C. Cook

ONEONTA – Ronald C. Cook, 70, the Oneonta native who earned induction into the Central New York Stock Car Hall of Fame, passed away Jan. 20, 2017, at his home in Port Charlotte, Fla., with his family by his side.

Racing Discussion / Old Late Models
« on: June 12, 2014, 07:28:32 PM »
This is aimed to KT folks. I was going to send him a PM but couldn't get the picture to attach!!!
A picture showed up on Retired Racing Vehicles and Abandoned Race (Ghost) Tracks today. It's a 57 Plymouth late model with the number 6 on it. Since we both spent a lot of time at the old tracks in Florida in our younger days, I'm wondering if maybe you might remember it.

Racing Discussion / Cards for Denny Decker
« on: July 27, 2012, 09:11:36 PM »
Thanks to Charles Miller for sending me this information.
Wilson Hospital has an 'E' card service for their patients and I think it would be great if we could all send Denny cards of support and well wishes.
Here is the link: http://www.uhs.net/carecards/?id=164&sid=1
Denny's room # is 4-ICU.
Thanks everyone for all your thoughts and prayers!!!!!
If everyone would do this on all the pages they belong to, I'm sure we can flood Denny with well wishes and let him know just how many are thinking of him and his family in this time! Thanks, Dave

Everyone, I'm writing in hope of starting something  here. Mr. Frank Buckles was the last American Veteran of World War 1. He passed away last weekend at age 110. The Senators of his home state of West Virginia have requested that he be allowed to Lie in State in the Rotunda of the US Capitol. The leaders of the House and Senate, Mr's. John Boehner and Harry Reid have denied this request! There is only ever one last Veteran and this Gentleman should be honored. I beseech you all to write and or call all of your elected officials and ask them to put the pressure on Mr's. Reid and Boehner and also President Obama to let this Old Soldier lie in state in our Nation's Capitol in honor of both his service to his country and that of being the Last Man. I have also written the American Legion, VFW and state veterans administration. Please help, what the leaders have done is an affront to all Veterans both living and gone on before! I'm sending this to my entire mailing list and hope that you might be so inclined to do the same. I would also ask that any of your friends that don't have computers to write or call and make this happen. Mr. Buckles funeral is planned for March 15 so there isn't a lot of time to get this accomplished. Thanks, David

America's last WWI veteran passed away yesterday, leaving just two alive now.  Cpl. Frank Buckles passed away at age 110.  Claude  Choules and Florence Green of Britain are the last two confirmed veterans still alive.  http://enews.earthlink.net/article/us?guid=20110227/62c781bb-e759-4a11-8c4c-ba54d612ddda
We are at the end of another era folks!!! For those  that are of the Masonic Brotherhood, Mr. Buckles was also a brother. On Sept. 24, 2008, he was presented the Knight Commander of the Court of Honour. On Veterans day 2007, he was also presented the Patrick Henry Medalion. Please pause for a moment in honor of Mr. Buckle's memory today. Dave

Racing Discussion / 'Moose' Cary
« on: December 03, 2010, 03:44:11 AM »
I hate to say this folks but we've lost another member of the fraternity. Moose Cary passed away Tuesday at the Veterans home in Oxford. I've posted his obituary in the We Remember section for everyone to read. It is in today's edition of the Oneonta Daily Star.
I never got to watch him race but, have been told many stories of him and have seen at least one of his cars that a friend has lovingly kept up and takes it to many of the local events. I did get to meet him at Fonda one night during the annual 'Old Timers' reunion and got to talk for a few minutes.
He's taken his final Checkered flag and is in very good company. Rest easy Mr. Cary.

Racing Discussion / 16th Annual Masonic Cruise-In For Kids
« on: May 07, 2010, 12:13:48 AM »
Sunday Sept. 12 the Schenevus Masonic Lodge is holding their 16th annual Cruise-In for Kids. This is our best fun raiser of the year and it is always a lot of fun. I would like to invite everyone to come out, bring your cars, trucks, bikes and especially, race cars and help us raise money for all the children's programs we support. If you have trophies, please bring them too and show them as well. This is a family event so the kids are welcome too. No bicycles on the show field is all we ask. Borst field, where the Cruise-In is held has an antique carousel that will be in operation also.

We do our own food and something will be available all day. Donuts, hot dogs, Spicy Pete's hot sausage, Dave and Doug's hush puppies, soda, coffee and water is available all day also. We also keep our prices reasonable!!!

There are several churches in our village for anyone that is so inclined. Baptist, Episcopal and Methodist churches are right here in town. The Catholic church is just a few miles up the road in Worcester. We keep things quiet in the morning so the services aren't disturbed.

We will also have a flea market with all kinds of stuff for sale! There are approximately 30 spaces so if you are a vendor or have things for sale, bring them along too!

Admission is free and it only cost's $5.00 to enter your vehicle or to reserve a vendor spot. We are right off I-88 exit 18 and there will be signs all over the place to get you to the show.

If you have any questions, please call me, Dave Jones at 607-638-9286 or 607-434-4685 or call the lodge at 607-638-6033 and leave a message. Someone will get back to you. I have a flyer that I will be glad to send you. I was going to attach it but it is the wrong format and I just don't know how to change it!!! If anyone has that know-how, please contact me!!!

Racing Discussion / Suitcase Jake
« on: February 25, 2010, 10:08:22 PM »
Now I'm like most of you and don't really have too much good to say about NASCAR these days but I do remember when it was the ultimate series. There's been a lot of 'characters' involved over the years too. Yesterday, one of the best left us, Jake Suitcase Elder passed away at age 73.
Anyone that remembers The King, Silver Fox, Jaws, Ironhead, Buffet Benny knows who he was and just how good he was at getting a car to handle. There are several good articles about him at That's Racin'  that tells about his life and accomplishments.
Rest easy Jake, you deserve it!
