Just a little over a year ago a long time racing photographer and a good friend Fred Smith passed away. Fred's contribution to the sport went beyond his photography. In the time he spent with the racing population, he did more than establish a business, he made tons of friends. From A. J. Foyt and Mario Andretti to Buzzy Barton and Joe Buchek, he seemed to be on a first name basis with all them. RIP Fred your legacy will not be forgotten. ThanksFred Smith Not sure who took this photo but it came from the Midstate Antique Stock Car Club website.

Who sold the photos at Freds stand while he was busy taking pictures when the races were going on?

Usually Fred's wife sold the pictures while Fred took them. He was also the track photographer for a number of eastern speedways and had photo stands at a number of them and an assorted cast of characters including myself, dirt racers Charlie Castle and Mark Terry and a few others. It was quite a time as Mrs. Smith was quite a unique individual as well.
